Born in Bombay and raised in England, Tom’s first experience with boating was on Loch Garry in Scotland, where a mast promptly fell on his head. As you can imagine, this rather put him off boats, so he pursued other interests in a career that can perhaps most charitably be described as “interesting.”
He has picked grapes in France, dealt roulette in Piccadilly, tour-managed a rock band in the United States, written a relationship column for a magazine, and traveled the world as a highly trained monkey on a TV news crew. On the way, he has survived a dozen riots, two wars, an IRA bombing, and a doomed romance with a Hollywood blonde. If nothing else, this has taught him to show grace under pressure.
It was only when he came to California, land of golden sunshine and the aforementioned blonde, that he returned to boating. Since then, he has worked at Dream Catcher Yachts in Dana Point, selling new Selene Ocean Trawlers & Pacific Seacraft, and ran Mason Yachts International in Marina del Rey, before joining Denison Yacht Sales in the same harbor.
Since then, he has literally written the book on boat buying. You can see it here A Hole In The Ocean
