Delta Marine Launches 151′ Megayacht: Project Monarch

April 21, 2011 3:06 pm

Combining the strengths of two long-standing American companies, Delta Marine and Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation (Cat Financial) have successfully completed and launched Project Monarch. Construction of this 151′ megayacht began at Northern Marine in Anacortes, Washington and was completed at Delta’s yard in Seattle. Cat Financial provided the financing and engines for the project.

With exterior styling and interior design by yacht designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, this semi-displacement yacht has an impressive 30’9” beam, and offers a balance of elegance and strength, form and function, performance, range and comfort. Her flared hull design has a hard chine to deflect spray and a high sheer line that captures a full beam arrangement forward of amidships.

Her bulbous bow increases efficiency. Powered by twin Cat 3512B series engines, she can comfortably reach speeds of up to 21 knots, with a range of 3,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. She is ABS and MCA certified, under 500 gross tons and wheelchair navigable, with extra wide doors, spacious walkways and a centrally located elevator providing convenient access to all her 4 decks.

“The interior for this yacht will be a great departure from any of my previous work. We have developed a modern approach to the detailing using traditional satin paint finishes, almost with the appearance of being ‘hand brushed.’ Large windows allow natural light in and enhance the soft monochromatic coloring and textures,” says Barnett. “The mood changes as you enter the dining salon, where a soft, warm and intimate gathering space has been created. Finally, the design takes advantage again of reflective light with a gorgeous parchment paneled and mirrored stainless steel central staircase and elevator.”

In the skylounge, the design is inspired by the great classic sailing and motoryachts from the turn of the century, with a modern spin. Elegant contemporary styling and soft worsted wool fabrics and leathers provide great comfort and warmth to compliment the generous use of wood solids and veneers. Marble accents play a key roll around the bar area with a decidedly “Gentlemen’s Club” feel. Sweeping views, large windows, a full bar and walk-in wine room makes this space perfect for cruising, entertaining or relaxing in the harbor.

Just forward of her pilothouse, the Portuguese bridge features wraparound glass panes with an expansive viewing range and a raised banquette that seats 5, another great spot for admiring the passing scenery.

All can enjoy 5-star comfort in her well-appointed guest suites. Forward on the main deck, the full-beam master is fitted with office, vanity, cedar-lined walk-in wardrobes and a double bath with whirlpool tub. Two king-berths and one queen and one-twin berth staterooms surround a central lower-deck foyer embellished with rich paneling and a fine inlaid stone floor.

The outdoor deck areas are a harmonious mix of sheltered and open venues, expansive settings
and secluded corners, suitable for socializing of all kinds. Aft of the skylounge is a spacious area
with seating for eight under the shade, complete with wet bar for cocktail parties under the stars.
Teak stairs lead to the sundeck with circular bar and an adjacent hot tub – a luxurious spot to
take in the view. Guests can lie on the sun pads or sit on comfortable upholstered stools poolside
and still look forward when underway.

Onboard amenities have been planned with discreet, efficient service a priority. The galley
arrangement enables crew to prepare elaborate meals with separate prepping, cooking and
plating areas. A comfortable Captain’s stateroom is located aft of the wheelhouse and four
double berths for eight additional crew are below deck. A watertight door allows easy access
for the crew to the guest quarters.
