Catamaran Superyacht Can Be Controlled By iPad

July 28, 2012 8:31 pm

For those interested in yachting and gadgets alike you don’t need to look any further than the Adastra, a state-of-the-art superyacht designed by British yacht designer John Shuttleworth and built for the bargain price of $15 million dollars for Hong Kong-based shipping-billionaire Anto Marden. Besides looking like a space ship, the coolest thing about the yacht is that you can actually control it using your iPad.

She can reach a top speed of 22.5 knots is 42.5 meters long, 16 meters wide and weighs 52 tons. Perhaps more amazing is that it has a maximum range of 4,000 miles so the owner can expect to travel “from the UK to New York in a single trip without refueling” (though it seems more likely Marden will use it for hopping between the islands he owns besides).

The iPad remote control takes charge of an integrated ship monitoring system which easily adds to the cool factor and promise to function as long as you are within 50 meters of the craft. And why not use an iPad when there is plenty of technology close at hand, with “15 double bedroom staterooms all equipped with their own luxury bathrooms and 6ft wide television screens.”

For those waiting their turn to party with Marden on his yacht, you won’t need to worry about paparazzi snapping photographs of your festivities. As if this boat needed more cool factor, it actually features a custom-fitted “‘anti-paparazzi shield’ that fires a laser beam of light at cameras to ruin photographs.”

When you are ready to relax, the 20,000 square foot interior space also houses a “sauna, steam bath and whirlpool to help guests wind down.”
