The Monte Carlo MC4 is the smallest in the company’s line. Her larger siblings are the MC5 and MC6. We may think of this trio as entry-level Monte Carlos, distinct from the more luxurious MCY 65, 70, 76, and 86, and a step up from parent company Beneteau’s line. Monte Carlo builds the MCs at its modern and efficient plant near St. Gilles, France. The streamlined factory allows the builder to offer interesting contemporary design (inside and out), high-quality materials and equipment, and good performance at a reasonable price.
Styled to catch the eye of relatively young 21st-century boating enthusiasts, the MC4 combines design themes from a variety of periods. One of my favorite motifs is the way the chine sweeps up in the forward sections to meet the stem, and then curls downward at the intersection. It’s almost a smirk and gives the bow a cheeky attitude. The small round portlights in the topsides forward recall yachts from the early 1900s, but the much larger portlights near amidships seem to come from another world. They light the master stateroom and provide a bit of extra character to the MC4’s profile. Capping this profile, from a short distance below the sheer line, the chrome rubrail breaks up the mass at exactly the correct height. Contrasting colors appear to increase the MC4’s overall length.
This sporty motoryacht’s single-level main deck ought to be perfect for entertaining. A deluge of light pouring through the saloon’s large windows, combined with the wide opening of its sliding doors, invite everyone aboard to move freely, all the way from the helm to the swim platform. The MC4 has her galley immediately inside the saloon, on the port side, where it makes serving meals easy. Placing the inside helm hard against the starboard side and up a couple of steps permitted the designers to offset the companionway to port.
Monte Carlo wisely chose to divide the accommodations belowdecks into two large staterooms with a full-beam master amidships, and a guest stateroom forward.
Alex Wilkes, Brand Manager for Monte Carlo raved about the new MC4:
“We are very excited about the recent addition of the MC4 to the Monte Carlo line. Although she is only 45 feet overall, she brings the elegance and style found in a Monte Carlo Yacht and combines the practicality and ingenious use of space found in a Beneteau GT.
She offers her owner’s a very large, spacious flybridge and a stunning master stateroom which you would usually only see on a much larger 50 footer. With two staterooms and two heads, a galley, up and a big salon that opens up to the cockpit she is the perfect yacht for entertaining.
The Monte Carlo 4, like her sisters in Beneteau Power, has chosen to again partner with Volvo with her hull designed for the always impressive Volvo IPS. She offers the option between the IPS 400s or the IPS 500s. She is also equipped with the same wave piercing bow design found on the MC5 which has made the MC5 one of the most impressive riding yachts on the market.
And by the way, if you don’t want a flybridge it is not a problem. Monte Carlo has a hard top version of the MC4 in the works.
We look forward to the US debut of the MC4 flybridge at the 2014 Fort Lauderdale boat show.”
