A Summer of Memories for Denison at Montauk New York Office

September 17, 2014 11:00 am

Life is simply a novel separated by wonderfully diverse chapters. Thankfully, Denison’s story is always a good read. A new chapter commenced this summer for Denison Yacht Sales on the Eastern tip of Long Island, in the once remote fishing town of Montauk. Normally blanketed by white snow and immersed in volatile weather during the winter, Montauk comes alive in the summer months with vibrant green foliage, bright blue skies, and light breezes filled with crisp ocean air. DYS chose the quaint yet historic Montauk Yacht Club for the new home base in New York. Positioned smack dab in the middle of the marina, the office is in a prime location surrounded by expansive views of Lake Montauk.

Early in the season, New York yacht broker Joe Laundrie, spent his mornings with a fresh cup of coffee and walked the docks mingling with the locals while learning the lay of the land. Afternoons always offered the pleasant laughter of children catching fish and enjoying quality time with friends while evenings welcomed colorful sunsets that provided a picturesque framework for family pictures. From small tenders to giant super yachts, the marina was constantly filled with diverse boats all summer long carrying assorted characters. One of those familiar personalities was Pete from the local fishing vessel, “My Mate”. As a seasoned fisherman in the area, Pete could always be found near the fish station cleaning and prepping the day’s fresh catch for his customers to enjoy that night. Several 40 pound striped bass seemed to be the normal daily occurrence for him and his crew.

It was not always daisies and rays of sunshine though for the Montauk team this summer. Mid-August brought an unpredictable storm that delivered strong winds, pelting rain, and high water levels. As the tide rose, the concern for everyone’s safety escalated as well. Luckily, no one was injured during the unstable weather and only a few boats assumed minor damages.

Joe Laundrie reflected on the unforgettable memories now permanently anchored with the following thoughts, “We had such an amazing summer here at the Montauk Yacht Club kicking off our first year on the docks. An overwhelming amount of familiar faces and new friendships have been enriched during these summer months. Clients would continually walk into our office and make themselves comfortable while discussing future boats and previous memories made on the water. We are certainly looking forward to developing future relationships and continually providing our friends and clients with the best service possible.” Denison culminated their first summer in Montauk by holding an amazing family event over Labor Day weekend that was a huge success. It also signified to those in attendance what the future will hold in the years to come. The season seemed to end as quickly as it began. Months passed like minutes as, one by one, slips in the marina slowly became vacant. Although this chapter has now drawn to a close, the page will soon turn again revealing the next step in Denison’s daring voyage.
