Hi, Elisabeth Soltes for BoatTest.com, and today we’re going to review the design and styling of the Beneteau Oceanis 60. We’ll start here in the salon.
The beam of the Oceanis 60 is 16-feet 9-inches, and you can really feel that space in the salon. To starboard there’s a wide bench seat for two and a U-shaped sofa with a solid wood table with lacquer tabletop and detailed inlay. Fold it out and rotate for dinner for 8 or fold it out for a friendly game of poker.
The sofas, which have arm rests, are made of a multi-layered high-density foam, which is supportive and soft. The heather gray with mocha trim fabric is one of the many options available on the Oceanis 60. This richly textured material, combined with the overall design, is comfortable and attractive and will age with grace.
Beneteau is known for building in plenty of storage areas throughout the boat and sometimes in the most unsuspected places. And just because it is storage space, don’t think they pull back on the designer style. Here’s the bottle cabinet tucked behind the port side settee.
With windows and skylights throughout, 6-feet 8-inches of headroom and plenty of additional lighting, the salon is flooded with light no matter the time of day or what the weather is like. The abundance of light highlights the Alpi mahogany wood with satin finish cabinets. The overhead panels and bulkheads are covered with the textured, cream-colored PVC fabric.
The navigation station is necessary, convenient and comfortable. Aside from its namesake it is large enough to double as your onboard office or even an additional place to sit.
The U-shaped galley is across from the navigation station. There’s a sheath stainless steel double sink, plenty of storage, a gimbaled propane stove with 3 burners, a top-opening freezer and a front-opening refrigerator.
Beneteau uses a durable resin for the countertops, which makes them easy to maintain and attractive to look at. I like the flush-mounted trash bag, so you can just chop vegetables and sweep the scraps right in. Across from the galley is an additional deep pull-out freezer drawer.
The Oceanus 60 has two layout options. Our test boat has the 3 staterooms and 3 head version. The second option has 4 staterooms and 4 heads.
The aft guest cabins flank the companionway. To port is a day head that also has a private entrance to a double bed cabin. There is 6 feet 3 inches of headroom, several windows and port lights and a hanging locker.
On the starboard side is the other guest cabin with twin beds that can be joined to make a double bed. There’s also a dressing table, a full-length mirror, hanging locker and a private head with separate shower stall.
Forward is the large master stateroom with an ensuite head. Upon entering the master we discover a centerline bed that is queen size at the head where it needs to be wide and it is tapered somewhat at the foot. This design permits a convenience seat to port and starboard.
Aft is a vanity and stool that can double as another workstation. Above it are tasteful and practical leather bins to hold everyday items even when the boat is keeling. Outboard are handy cubbies for every day cloth and forward of that is a large hanging locker.
Underneath is a swing-out bin your shoes. Fully forward we find that Beneteau has utilized the bow flare port and starboard for more storage.
Overhead there’s a large hatch and that plus two side windows bring in lots of natural light. But perhaps what I like most about this master is the cozy yacht-like ambience it has because of the dark wood that surrounds this cabin.
The Beneteau Oceanis 60 measures 62-feet 3-inches length overall. But some may say that her finest features are much smaller. The stylish details such as the leather-wrapped handrails, electronically actuated shades, solid fixtures, leather saddlebags, stainless steel accents and well-placed mood lighting are what truly make this sailboat special.
That’s my review of the design and styling of the Beneteau Oceanis 60. For BoatTest.com, I’m Elisabeth Soltes.
