Today we’re wandering off the coast of Southern California to give you an inside look at a rare breed of super yacht, purpose-built for a different kind of adventure.
Fishing the world, carrying whatever you want and whoever you want with you. She’s a 120′ Crescent motoryacht with aggressive lines. But on the inside, her character and personality show in the warm mahogany and in the space itself, considering her beam measures 25 feet. Originally designed by Jack Sarin to cruise the waters of the Pacific Northwest, she’s rugged yet refined. And today, we’re going to give you a private tour of this world cruising motor yacht named VALKYRIE.
Her adventurous story begins at the stern, in the massive cockpit. It’s equipped with truly everything necessary for serious bill-fishing, with outriggers and in-deck fish box, plumbed with chipped ice, and a custom 130-pound fighting chair here in the center. At the transom is a huge aquarium-style live well, and a tuna door with a gate. These stanchions on the swim platform are easily removed to assist with bringing fish on board or if you just want to have more space to swim and dive. Forward in the cockpit to either side are fish-prep stations with tackle storage.
Let’s move up into the aft deck. A clever part of the design is this viewing area facing aft for guests wanting to be a part of the action. Further forward is a large dining area with a day-head to starboard. Let’s move from the stern up onto the boat deck. When traveling the world on a yacht like this, you want to bring toys with you. Valkyrie has two. To port is an Edgewater center console that measures almost 25 feet and to starboard is an 18′ Novurania tender. To maneuver them, Valkyrie needs a big davit, one with 8,000 pounds of capacity. And it can launch either boat to the portside, starboard side or even all the way over the cockpit to the stern.
Just in front of the toys we enter the living area on the flybridge. And you can certainly do a lot of living up here. Another big dining table lives here on the starboard side and notice the beautiful woodwork, which is clearly a theme throughout. Over to port, all that Tuna, Mahi and other fresh caught fish can be cooked here on the oversized barbecue. It’s also fitted with a sink, fridge and icemaker. Forward, we come to the upper helm station. It has three stidd seats mounted to an elevated platform for better visibility. To see an extensive list of all her nav. gear, make sure to cruise through her listing after the walkthrough. We’ll go into more detail when we get to the pilot house.
A necessity on the bridge are wing stations on both sides and there’s also one on the aft deck making, 5 total on VALKYRIE. It’s been a long day of hunting and reeling in fish, now it’s time to relax. Let’s move into the interior.
Designed by Robin Rose, her interior is warm and inviting with beautiful joinery and woodwork in every direction. Oversized windows bring light in and give incredible views out. Forward is the formal dining area, separated from the salon using these rope style columns, which is a neat nautical touch by Robin Rose. The table can sit 8 and it’s surrounded by dedicated storage for crystal, china and cutlery. Continuing forward around the corner from here is a dayhead. Again, notice the beautiful mahogany with blue accents.
Now we’ll move into the main foyer. From here you can access the side decks, you could walk forward to the bow and hang out on the sunpad. But let’s go back to that foyer. You’ll see the beautiful granite used in the floor here. Let’s keep walking forward along the starboard side. You’ll pass a staircase that leads to the pilot house before entering into the galley or country kitchen aboard VALKYRIE. There’s a big granite island in the center with a Thermador 5-burner stove top, sub-zero fridge and freezer with additional cold storage hidden in the cabinetry, a decor oven, Miele dishwasher – basically a complete chef’s kitchen.
And forward is another large dinette with granite table. You can access one of the crew areas from here. There are two staterooms in the bow and one at the stern allowing for a total of 5 crew. From the galley, let’s walk up the staircase here into the pilot house. VALKYRIE is equipped with everything suited for traveling the world. Two Furuno 96-mile radars, 5 Furuno screens with another 3 on the bridge, 2 hybrid touch GPS plotters, autopilot, AIS, bow thruster and Naiad stabilizer controls. To port is a settee that faces forward, plenty of built-in storage and a designated office area for the captain located aft. On our starboard side, Robin Rose made sure to elevate the settee so you still have great visibility all around.
Let’s head below decks now and check out the staterooms. We arrive in a foyer that connects to all four staterooms. Heading forward, located amidships, is the master stateroom. Take a look at all that stunning mahogany in here. King-size berth with storage below and all around, including a cedar-lined walk-in. To the portside is a built-in vanity that also serves as a desk and the ensuite is also to port, with his and her sinks and a generous walk-in marble shower.
Moving out of the master stateroom and turning the corner on the starboard side is a guest stateroom with over-under berths. The location is great for the kids, considering it’s close to the master. And now moving aft on the port side, we have another guest stateroom with a queen berth, built-in storage, there’s TVs in all staterooms, the salon and the crew quarters, and all 4 ensuite heads have mahogany elements with contrasting marble stone.
Coming out of the port stateroom and heading to starboard is the VIP. If you need it to, this queen berth can actually separate into twins, making for a versatile layout. And our ensuite here is forward. Now we’re going to move back to the stern of the boat and move into the engine room. VALKYRIE is powered by MTU 16V 2000 M90s with a total of 3600 horsepower, giving her a cruise speed of 15 to 17 knots and a max speed of 21 knots at just over 2300 rpm. She also has a very impressive range. At 8 knots or 850 rpm, she can run 6000 nautical miles.
Another unique aspect is her draft, only 6 feet 6 inches, which is great for the Bahamas. And the air draft is also a notable feature. The flybridge arch folds to a max height of 19 feet 6 inches, which allows easier access to places like the Great Lakes. When you have a boat that can go and fish anywhere, it’s important to have these design elements, allowing you to travel the globe with as few limitations as possible.
