Top 3 Charter Watersports For Your Next Yacht Vacation

April 16, 2020 5:00 pm

Yacht Charter broker Laura Jagielski gives a complete breakdown of the newest innovations to watersports for you to enjoy while chartering a catamaran.

Chartering a catamaran is a fantastic way to go on vacation with your family, friends, or even host a work retreat.  Chartering a catamaran in the Caribbean allows you to see and experience a much larger area than you normally would when staying at a beach resort, as you island hop to a different spot each day.

The crewed charter catamarans have all the toys that you’d find at a beach resort but even more.  And unlike the beach resorts, all the watersport activities/toys are included in your all-inclusive crewed catamaran charter price.  Crewed catamarans will have snorkel gear, fishing rods, tubes, floating mats, noodles, stand-up paddle boards, kayaks, floating islands and beach games.  But 3 of my favorite toys that you won’t normally find at a beach resort are Kite Surfing Boards, Foil Surf Boards and Sub Wings.

#1 — Kite Surfing

Kite surfing is a great sport for teens and up, that has similar qualities of wakeboarding, windsurfing, paragliding and surfing.  It’s also an eco-friendly activity, as you harness the power of the wind.

OCULUS, a Lagoon 620 catamaran, is outfitted with the largest selection of boards, kites, harnesses, and helmets than any other catamaran.  It’s also the only boat where all 3 crew members are kitesurfing instructors. Guests looking to try their hand at kitesurfing will find that Anegada in the British Virgin Islands provides the perfect backdrop for learning this popular sport, with its shallow waters and quiet beaches.  Beginner kite surfers and advanced kite surfers will find they have plenty of space to learn the basics or to practice their tricks.

#2 — Foil Boarding

Electric foil surfboards are the newest toys to pop up on crewed charter catamarans.  These toys give the sensation of surfing, while “flying” over the water. The foilboard allows you to ride through the water without needing wind or waves; which is great for the US and British Virgin Islands as there are lots of calm anchorages to safely try this toy out in.  Guests can control the speed of the board with a remote control device, with the maximum speed going up to 30mph! It’s great for the adventure seeking guest and TWIN FLAME is one of the few catamarans currently offering guests this opportunity.

#3 — Subwing

Subwings are a towable board that guests can use to enhance their snorkeling experience.  It’s towed from your charter catamaran’s dinghy, pulling you no faster than 2-3 knots. Guests hold their breath from a few seconds to minutes and dive down under the water, as the board pulls you along the ocean floor or reef; giving you the sensation of gliding through the water like a dolphin.  These toys are great for any age and is an easy way to check out a reef, a shipwreck, or follow some turtles.
