Yacht Broker Participates In Crossing For A Cure In Partnership With Piper’s Angels

Marina Nazario | June 23, 2021

How To Get Involved In The Crossing For Cystic Fibrosis

Passion comes in many shapes and forms — for Denison yacht broker, Jordan Preusz that looks like paddleboarding 80 miles from Bimini to mainland Florida to raise funds for the Piper’s Angels Foundation.

Crossing for a Cure is an annual event in support of Piper’s Angels, a nonprofit that raises awareness for cystic fibrosis and raises funds for families who suffer from this disease. In 2019, Jordan participated in the event with his wife and two brothers. From accidentally swimming with sharks to paddling out at 1 am in support of the cause, Jordan’s experience was one for the books.

This month, Jordan and his wife Lauren, along with Jackie Miller and husband Adam Miller, will paddle for an exciting and rewarding cause.

During this long-distance endurance challenge, participants will paddle 80 miles across the Gulf Stream from Bimini in the Bahamas to Lake Worth, Florida. The event was inspired by the incredible health benefits that a saltwater environment provides for those living with cystic fibrosis, a terminal lung disease. Jordan’s friend Travis Suit has a daughter named Piper who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was four years old. She inspired Travis to begin Crossing for a Cure in 2016 and launch Piper’s Angels Foundation.

After completing this crossing last year, how have you prepared for your upcoming 80-mile paddle?

“I am ashamed to say that I haven’t been on my board in the last 6 months! But I do attend a CrossFit gym and workout daily, so hopefully, that will help with this endurance challenge,” said Jordan. “Paddleboarding is sort of like riding a bike, my wife and I are ready to go!

Events like this are an exciting yet challenging adventure. When the body fatigues and the mind wants to quit, the power of your ‘why’ is what pushes you through — what’s motivating your participation in this event?

“Our friend Jackie Miller (who has cystic fibrosis and will be paddling with us) and her family are our motivation,” said Jordan. “As well as the others suffering from this disease. Crossing for a Cure is a phenomenal event and it’s an honor to be a part of it.”

What would you like readers to know about the cause?

“Piper’s Angels is a nonprofit organization that was founded by Travis Suit, whose daughter Piper is a CF Warrior,” said Jordan. “The foundation supports local CF families by providing support, advocacy, and the ability to live their greatest lives possible.”
