86 Sunseeker Yacht Walkthrough [Boat Review + Video]

Hey everybody, Ryan Alexander with Denison Yachting and David Johnson. Today we are getting to show you one of Denison’s latest listings, an 86-foot Sunseeker. This morning it was nice and chilly out but we had an incredible sea trial. Yeah, great sea trial here in Biscayne Bay. Kind of a breezy day, we took a cruise out to Stiltsville and dropped the anchor out there.

While at anchor, we were able to test out the Schlepner zero-speed stabilizers sitting in a resting position and work our way back to the marina. And we were able to shoot the interiors which can sometimes be hard when the boat is moving a lot, a stabilized ride like this makes that experience when you’re on the hook. All the better, that’s right.

Very high spec on this build all wenge wood throughout the interior, high gloss which is not normally offered on this 86. The speeds on this boat are pretty impressive. you get a top speed of about 28 knots, cruising speed of 22 knots, pretty much going to get you anywhere you want to go quickly. Obviously, with Sunseeker, you’ve got the Predator, you have the Manhattan, then you have the yacht series. The 86 is the biggest yacht in the yacht series. It starts with 53 and then works its way up. This is kind of the best of the yacht series.

When it comes to accommodations, this boat has a great layout. It’s got four staterooms, two king bedrooms, and two cabins with twins that convert into full-size queen berths. And in the twin cabins, you’re also going to find two Pullman bunks as well. So you have sleeping for 10 guests.

My takeaway after walking through the boat for the past couple hours, this is a great family boat. Someone who likes the owner/operator role, when you think about the Simrad electronics package, it makes going back and forth between the two helms easy. But you also have this third helm back here, so it just seems more operational than most boats you would find in this size range.

It’s really well thought out. It’s a great platform for a large family but it’s also a great platform for somebody that wants to consider chartering the vessel to offset some of the operating costs. Overall, this is a great size yacht.

Our first stop on today’s walkthrough is my personal favorite location on every yacht, it’s the sundeck. The sundeck on the ENTERPRISE is massive and it’s very well appointed. You’ve got everything you could need up here on a sundeck. You’ve got the Jacuzzi, you’ve got a dining table for 8 people, you’ve got the helm with a beautiful view for the captain when he’s piloting the boat, and you’ve got enough room for a full-size jet ski. This particular boat is carrying the GTR 230 which is one of the largest seadoos made and a davit that’s large enough to easily launch it into the water.

Another really nice option up here on the sundeck is you’ve got a carbon-fiber hard top and inclusive. In the hard top is a very nice convertible sunroof right here. It’s a great option when you’re sitting here having dinner, you can look up at the stars really enjoy it or if it’s a cool day, you’ve got the sun that can also keep you warm. And another option that I may have skipped over before is there is an awning that goes out from the outside of the hardtop and covers the Jacuzzi. So you can kind of take the heat off when you’re in the Jacuzzi, if you want to.

This is adjacent the service area, the bar area which is over here on the port side. We’ve got a sink, we’ve got a grill beneath the cover as well as this top-loading refrigerator just forwards. You can fill it up with ice, grab and go drinks. There’s even an ice maker on the backside here. In your experience having run boats which helm are you using, if you got to run this boat? Depends on location obviously.

So cruising in the Bahamas, obviously in a beautiful day, I’d be sitting here at this helm, the whole way over the Bahamas. If you are going to the Bahamas, you’re going to move up here as soon as you start getting into the shallow water. You want to be able to have good visibility looking down, just a great option to have an additional helm on any yacht.

Walking onto the bow this reminds me of the 95 Sunseeker hideout that we shot. When I was doing my homework on this boat, I’m looking at all these Sunseekers, it’s very clear that the bow is important to Sunseeker and that there is symmetry though between the 95 and the 86 and how usable the foredeck is. It’s a wonderful place for the kids to hang out on the bow when you’re cruising along. But most importantly, when you’re in the marina, you’re stirring too.

It gives you a place to be alone and you got some privacy from the people that are walking behind the boat. Also when you’re just cruising along and it’s a nice day, it’s a really safe place to be. You’ve got music up here, you got the speakers, very easy access. And another nice thing to point out is that you’ve got teak all the way up from the aft deck. It just has another comfortable vibe to it. Within minutes of dropping the anchor, this yacht begins the transformation process where all of the toys are put into the water.

To accomplish this there are two hydraulic systems which are utilized. The first is the davit that we noted up on the flybridge aft. And the second is this hydraulic swim platform which is currently home to a Zodiac sea sport 420 tender that has a Yamaha F60 outboard engine. Similar to how the Jacuzzi deck serves in multiple ways, this teak beach is not only home to the tender but it also puts the whole family down on the water with ease.

Accessed by way of a euro transom, you can pass freely port or starboard and step up onto the teak appointed aft deck. With all sorts of stylistic differences between this British builder and their counterparts and let’s say Italy, the prevailing main deck aft designs coming out of Europe as a whole share several characteristics.

Central to this design is an alfresco dinette with molded-in seating along the aft and a durable teak table. Here 8 guests can gather together for meals under the cover of the overhead. This finish helps cut down on ambient light day or night.

Outboard of the dinette port and starboard is the deck gear that you use when getting the boat on and off the dock. Forward of the deck gear on the starboard side is where we see the aft deck’s wet bar. This is equipped with a sink, storage, and refrigeration.

The last thing to point out down here is the engine room access hatch in the deck. This is one of two ways into the mechanical space with the second being through the stern. When you step into the engine room, the first thing you’re going to notice are the two MTU 12V 2000 M96 cell engines. And then outboard these main engines, you’re going to find the 32 kW Koehler generators.

The ENTERPRISE sits on a base dock at a prominent marina here in Miami. The boat has to look good at all times. Something that the owner has done to keep this boat looking amazing is that when it was delivered new, he applied a coat of ceramic coating on the boat and has always maintained every couple of months the application of the ceramic coating and if you look at the hull now, it still has a beautiful shine to it.

If you look up at the gel coat on the upper decks, everywhere you look on the glass, the stainless steel everything is still shining. And if you take into consideration this is a 2017 and it’s a black hull, in most cases, the hull would have some fading. This boat still looks as good as the day that it was delivered brand new. Something that we’ll see later in the video in more detail is the side access door that’s right here.

There are two side access doors, one on the port, one on the starboard side. This one will probably get used the most simply because they’re boarding from this side and it’s easier for the crew to leave that door open when they’re coming on with groceries and other items, they can just walk right in there and avoid walking through the interior.

Having gone over all of the exterior deck spaces onboard ENTERPRISE, we’re next going to walk you through the interior beginning with the salon. Dark tones prevail on just about every flat surface on board and are in contrast with the fishbowl-like window configuration of the salon and main deck as a whole.

Where we find the exception to this is seen when we look overhead, an area finished with light mixed materials. Arranged with low-profile furniture, this semi-formal salon is the ideal counterpart to the experience that’s offered outdoors. This is where you can grab a seat with friends and family at either of the angled sofas port or starboard and make the most of the surrounding view.

One of the most outstanding and practical features that you’re going to find on this boat is the balcony that you see here on the starboard side. You push this window out of the way, then you have a powered balcony that drops down. Yeah, it’s a very nice option something you don’t find on too many 86-foot yachts. It’s a wonderful place to sit out and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and watch the dolphins swim by.

Moving forward from the dining area, you have two options, you can move forward on the port side through the galley or on the starboard side. I’m going to walk you through this way. The first thing you’ll find are the stairs down to the guest accommodations where you’ll find the master cabin and the two twin cabins. And then moving forward, there’s the dayhead and then ultimately you’ll get to the lower helm.

Before we take a look at those spaces in detail, we’re going to pass forward on the port side here and take a look at the galley. Upon first glance, it’s likely that you are underestimating this galley. This is the type of boat that has a full-time chef on board and she makes incredible food because between the guests and the crew, there’s always need for fresh food.

The appliances in here are built by Miele and offer adequate support to any experienced chef. If you want to join in on the meal prep or grab a cocktail, a radial bar along the inboard side of the galley offers you a spot to do so. Also, note that in the immediate area is the entrance into the main deck dayhead. A proper seating area can be found forward of the galley at this L-shaped dinette located to port. Arranged below the windshield, this serves everyone on board from the guests to the crew, given its close proximity to a climate-controlled helm.

The final feature found here on the main deck is this very well-laid-out helm. This entire helm and the helm on the upper deck is powered by Simrad. On the main helm you’re going to find your Simrad multifunction displays and you’re going to have your MTU main engine controls panels as well. On the panels, you’re going to be able to monitor everything from your temperatures to any other alarms that are going off, to your speeds.

Also found down here are a variety of other displays, you got your radar angle indicator, kind of repeaters from the larger displays. Also found here are side power stabilizer controls, searchlight your anchor chain, windlass control and then ultimately you’re going to have your main engine controls over here. Everything is right in front of you, Simrad’s done a really good job of putting everything in the right place on this helm and the upper helm.

So the one area that we haven’t looked at today is the guest accommodations. There’s a total of 4 staterooms onboard the ENTERPRISE. We’re going to start by looking at the area in the midship accommodations right down here. The aftmost cabins on the lower level feature a mirrored and versatile layout. For example, here on the port side, we see a queen berth below a long hull side window. This queen berth can be pushed apart in the middle allowing the arrangements in these cabins to switch between queen and twin configurations.

When in the twin layout, you can make the most of a Pullman berth designed to drop down from the inboard bulkhead. Each stateroom also has several options for storage including hanging lockers and the private ensuites found down here are some of the best in class. Connecting these cabins in the master is a reflective simple foyer that helps reinforce the overall formal fit and finish that we’ve seen everywhere on board. Passing through this foyer, we step into the owner’s stateroom which features a full-beam design.

The high gloss joinery found in here adds unique depth to the space on virtually all sides. In addition to a centerline aft-facing king berth, there’s a desk and vanity combo over on the port side. And the owner’s TV is at the foot of the bed. This is just a few feet away from the entrance into the ensuite with his and hers vanity and stone finished shower stall.

So moving forward from the helm we’re going to transition down into the last stop on today’s tour which is the forward VIP. This final guest accommodation is all of the way forward in the bow and thanks to its location, it’s a private place to escape at the end of the day. Looking over the starboard side, we see a vanity, right next to the entrance into this cabin. Looking opposite to port is the entrance into the VIP’s ensuite head and shower.

Thank you so much for joining David and myself as we got to walk you around this 86 Sunseeker. I am just now realizing, we did not talk about the origin of the name of this boat. You would think that maybe the owner of this boat is the founder of ENTERPRISE, would make sense.

Not the case at all but rather he’s a Trekkie. He is, he’s a huge fan of the Star Trek series. Absolutely and the name ENTERPRISE is very fitting for the owner of the boat. Interesting to point out that there is a ladder from William Shatner himself.

“Congratulations on your ENTERPRISE had one once and it was terrific. It could go at warp speed, stop on a dime and a child could dock it. I hope yours has the same characteristics.”
