Best of Denison Yachting 2022

Sarah Nadler | January 13, 2023

Our Year in Review.

After a successful 2021, Denison was ready to take on 2022 with the same gusto. We are extremely grateful to have experienced yet another one of our best years in terms of yacht sales, charters booked, and marketing achievements.

We’d like to thank you as we reflect on our top highlights from this past year. Whether you’re a client, a broker, a competitor, or simply a boat enthusiast, we welcome you to celebrate with us the strides that the yachting industry has made in 2022.

1. More Superyacht Sales Than Any Other Brokerage

A superyacht is everything 80’ and over. In 2022, Denison brokered a total of 76 superyacht transactions, ranging between 80′ and 300′. Denison also acquired even more world-class yacht brokers to the team since last year, garnering more sales. Our most notable sales include the 202′ Viareggio SEALYON, the 164′ Westport BACCHUS, and the 161′ Trinity STAY SALTY.

2. Millions Attracted Online

With over 10 million page views and 2 million unique users to date, our online strategies have proven effective, allowing our listings to be seen more often. Denison delivered more than 13 million emails with high open and click-through rates — leading the industry in email performance. Stay up-to-date with the latest in the yachting industry by signing up for our newsletter here.

3. OneWater Marine Acquisition

In March 2022, the news came out that Denison Yachting was acquired by OneWater Marine. Thiswas a huge step for us, one that granted us more resources, more personnel, and more support–in many variations. The publicly-traded company is one of the largest dealers of recreational boats, with about 90 locations and growing exponentially, and we are proud to have joined the team this year.

4. Continued European Expansion + Display at the Monaco Yacht Show

After opening our new office in Monaco, our larger European expansion has continued, with a number of new brokers and team members joining the Monaco-based team, as well as new brokers based in other locations throughout Europe, including Palma and London. Pierre Badin, one of our Monaco-based brokers, alone has sold a 104′ Princess located in Imperia, Italy, an 88′ Ferretti located in St. Jean Cap Ferrate, Monaco, and an 85′ Arcadia located in Barcelona, Spain, in addition to a new construction 50-meter Dynamiq GTT 160–resulting in close to €40 million in sales. Denison also hosted a display at the annual Monaco Yacht Show, which featured four yachts on display: a SARP 86, an Alpha 125, and an 85′ Evadne Yachts named Rock III, as well as EMOCEAN, a 125′ Rosetti and winner of the 2022 World Super Yacht Awards, offered for sale for the first time.

5. Nine Cryptocurrency Transactions Accepted

Accepting Bitcoin has paved the way to make yachting more accessible. In 2014, Denison became the first large-scale yacht company to accept cryptocurrencies for luxury charter bookings and boat sales at all price points, including multimillion-dollar deals. In 2021, Denison integrated a feature that allows clients to shop for a yacht according to its price in Bitcoin. In 2022, Denison successfully accepted 9 cryptocurrency transactions, including 7 for yacht purchases and 2 for yacht charters, totaling almost $10 million in cryptocurrency transactions.

6. Notable, Large-Scale Sales

SEALYON, a 202′ Viareggio superyacht built in 2009, was sold by Kurt Bosshardt, who represented the Buyer. She was asking $29,900,000 at the time of sale. At 202 feet long, this was Denison’s biggest boat sale of 2022. Additionally, BACCHUS, a 164′ Westport motor yacht built in 2009, was sold by Chris Daves, who represented the Seller. She was asking $31,500,000 at the time of the sale. STAY SALTY. a 161′ Trinity motor yacht built in 2008, was sold by Kurt Bosshardt and Patrick Hopkins, who represented the Seller. She was asking $17,950,000 at the time of sale.

7. FRANK Magazine Issues 3 & 4 Published

Denison released two new issues of FRANK Magazine, an offbeat print publication that uncovers human interest stories that give yachting its passion and breathe life into clever ideas. Contributors highlight the humble, celebrate entrepreneurial spirit, and showcase daring adventures. It captures the raw energy that exists within every Denison yacht owner today and echoes the sentiments held by Frank Denison. In 2022, we were honored to welcome Forbes Superyacht Senior Contributor Bill Springer to our team as Editor of FRANK. A thought leader in superyachts, Bill wrote a number of interesting articles in the latest issue of our yachting magazine.

8. More Yacht Charter Bookings

In terms of yacht charter, Denison continued to experience high demand for larger and more expensive yachts. The team saw a 63% increase in the total number of charters booked with Denison throughout 2022. With countless charter destination options for a luxury charter, Denison charter brokers and charter management specialists have facilitated many dream vacations.

9. Increased New Construction Yacht Sales

Denison sold 8 new construction yachts in 2022. After Alex G. Clarke opened the market for Numarine in North America in 2021, he secured 3 more Numarine deals this year. Additionally, in March, Silver Yachts appointed Denison as its dealer for the SilverCat product line in the Americas and the Caribbean, opening up more new-build opportunities for our clients. Denison yacht broker Tony Smith is Brand Manager for Silver Yachts and specializes in the SilverCat luxury power catamarans.

10. Rose to the Challenge in New Boat Sales

2022 presented some difficult challenges for new boat sales as supply chain disruptions wreaked havoc on boatbuilders’ production lines. The Denison sales and service teams overcame extensive delays, incomplete shipments, and widespread logistical chaos to sell and deliver over 30 new boats to their happy owners in 2022. We also are proud to have been appointed as a dealer for the premium center console brand SŌLACE Boats covering Southeast Florida and California.

11. Added New Brand Partnerships

As a leader in the industry and a proud Fort Lauderdale-based business, Denison works with luxury brands to create an all-around, excellent experience for clients. In addition to our new partnerships made in 2021, including Holman Motorcars, Wheels Up, and Tropic Ocean Airways, we also teamed up with Lacure Villas to provide “the best in high-end experiences to our valued clients”, as Denison Manager of Brand Partnerships Jennifer Welker Peacock shared. Benefits vary according to the partnership, but each ensures a seamless, top-notch experience between brands.

12. Hosted Bimini Breeze and Catalina Island Rendezvous

Every year, Denison hosts clients, family, and friends for a long weekend of fun in the sun. Denison’s annual Rendezvous took place on the East Coast in Bimini starting on August 18 and on the West Coast in Catalina from July 28. Whether it was mingling over cocktails, participating in activities, dominating the scavenger hunt, or dancing at the white party, we hope you had as much fun as we did during these summer weekends.

13. The Denison Family Was Honored

This year, the legacy of the Denison family, Broward Marine, was honored with a State of Florida Heritage Site Marker at the location of the original shipyard, where Frank Denison solidified his mark on the yachting industry by purchasing the shipyard (then called Dooley’s Dry Dock) in 1948. The heritage marker installation took place on Saturday, November 12 at Safe Harbor Lauderdale Marine Center.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our successful year. We’re excited to march into 2023 with a hard-working team, bigger and better ideas, and a heart full of passion. Happy New Year from the Denison Team!
