Raised in the Chicagoland area, Jim started boating at the age of seven aboard his family's Chris-Craft 40 on Lake Michigan. Summers were spent on Mackinac Island and exploring the Great Lakes. An interest in competitive sailing started in high school on Illinois lakes in a Sunfish that was trailered to Sarasota, Florida in the winter.
Attending Denison University in Granville, Ohio was followed by graduate school at Indiana University and a 25-year career in finance, which brought Jim to San Francisco in 1980. After actively racing a J-29 on the Bay, Jim joined the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon and purchased a Beneteau 321, which he continues to enjoy.
In 2005, Jim became a licensed California yacht salesperson. He has represented both new production and brokerage power and sailboats for the past 18 years in the Bay Area. Brands include Chris-Craft, Beneteau, Jeanneau, Dufour, Alerion Express, Island Packet, and Grand Banks. Also, as a skipper, there have been numerous trips up and down the California coast, participating in the Baja Haha and continuing on via the Panama Canal to West Palm Beach on a new Beneteau Oceanis 45.
It seems like fate that Jim is now associated with a yachting organization with the same name as his beloved alma mater.
