Denison is proud to announce that Steven Meiner, the city of Miami Beach mayor, has appointed Denison broker Mike Kiely to the Marine & Waterfront Protection Authority.
The MWPA reviews marine and waterfront issues for the city of Miami Beach, working alongside park rangers, marine patrol, and the police to make recommendations to the city commission. Issues include but are not limited to derelict vessels, illegal charters, managing boat pump outs and waste removal, new mooring field(s), beach and bay walks, business tax receipts (BTR) for charters, and city leases for waterfront properties like the Miami Beach Marina.
When appointing Mike, the mayor said: “Mike Kiely is a welcomed addition to the Marine and Waterfront Authority. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the marine industry that will help guide the board and its recommendations to the Miami Beach City Commission.”
Mike brings his lifelong experience as a boater and his 20 years in the marine industry as a yacht broker to this city committee. “I look forward to bringing my knowledge of the industry to the table,” he said. “I not only want to protect the citizens’ rights in my community but boaters’ rights as well.”
Mike was originally invited to attend meetings by a past client and city official and had been sitting in on the public meetings. He felt that the committee could use the perspective of someone from inside the industry, and that joining could be a great way to give back to the community. Two commissioners were standing by to appoint him, but the mayor himself already put him through. The term length is one year, but members are usually re-appointed annually. Congratulations Mike!
