Sarah Nadler | August 1, 2024

There are endless possibilities for incredible boating destinations. Denison yacht brokers share their favorites.

Discovering new boating destinations can be one of the most rewarding aspects of yachting. With so many exceptional spots around the world, it can be hard to find direction. To help narrow down the options, we’ve turned to our experts: Denison yacht brokers. Here, our brokers share their top recommendations for unique and memorable locations. Whether you’re seeking serene hideaways or vibrant coastal spots, read on to find your next adventure on the water.

The Bahamas
The Bahamas

The number-one region that yacht brokers turn to, almost automatically, is hands-down the Caribbean, and particularly the Bahamas. “For me, my favorite is the Bahamas,” says Max Parker. “I love fishing. The fishing is phenomenal and also I love the color of the water. The color of the water is just unique and different in its own way, especially in shallow waters.”

Brian Ragsdale seconds that. “I like to fish, so I love the Bahamas, and I love swordfishing right out front of Florida, right here in Fort Lauderdale. In the Bahamas, the fishing’s good, deep trapping’s good, yellow eyes, snap for fishing. It’s nice. It’s the Bahamas.” It’s clear, literally, that you can’t go wrong in the tropical wonderland.

“I’ve been to Thailand, I’ve been to Israel,” Jake Garber shares, “but of all time, of everywhere I’ve been boating and fishing and diving, the Berry Islands, Great Harbour Cay, in the Bahamas is my favorite place in the entire world.”

“This is in the Bahamas, but it’s not touristed out, so it’s very low-key, not many people know about it, and it’s some of the prettiest reefs and fishing, and the island has the nicest people ever, the food’s amazing, and it’s just like a hidden paradise, pretty much.”

Denison brokers make it sound like the Bahamas are a no-brainer. Eric Burke comments that if he was given the opportunity to go anywhere, “I’d go to the Bahamas; the water, the proximity to Florida, it feels like you’re on the other side of the world, but you’re only 200 miles, even 100 miles from Florida.”

Brandon Barnes, another fan of the stunning locale, agrees. “It’s got to be in the Bahamas, anywhere in the Bahamas. It’s beautiful, great weather, the water is beautiful, and it’s right here,” he mentions, being based in Florida.

Richard Glazer also says the Bahamas is his go-to. He claims that once you visit, you will also understand why it’s such a popular destination. If that doesn’t pique your interest, we don’t know what will!

Anguilla

Beyond the Bahamas, the Caribbean has tons of incredible islands to explore. “My favorite place would be Anguilla,” says Pierre Badin. “I used to live in Saint Martin. I lived 12 years in the Caribbean. So even though I’m French and I really like the Mediterranean, I love Corsica, I love many places…the best I’ve seen for boating on a day trip is Anguilla. It has the best white sand beaches.”

Tom Robertson chooses Antigua. “There’s a lot to offer: cool local people, a lot of beaches, great fishing, diving.” It’s hard to argue with those offerings.

Clark Haley is also a fan of the Caribbean. “We just got through with a Caribbean cruise. We spent two years in the Caribbean on our boat, a Nordhavn 55. And in the Eastern Caribbean, I absolutely loved Dominica, a beautiful, beautiful place to visit. And then, of course, I’m a scuba diver, so Roatan and Bonaire in the Western Caribbean were awesome. Cozumel is always a favorite of mine. We spent a month and a half in Cozumel. And then up the coast, going north in the summertime, I love Newfoundland. It’s one of my favorite places in the world. And the outer communities that are only accessible by land are just absolutely awesome.”‘

Stateside, there are many beautiful destinations to visit by boat. “My favorite place to boat in the world is on the Severn River, right next to Annapolis in Maryland,” Connor Bradley says. “That’s where I grew up. I love it there. It’s an awesome community and Annapolis is just the coolest town in the country.”

In regards to dream locations, somewhere Eric Burke hasn’t been but would love to visit is Fiji. “I’ve been to Hawaii, so I’m assuming it’s similar to that, but somewhere in the Indian Ocean or Pacific Ocean.”

In the same area of the globe, Erik Mayol‘s pick is Tahiti. “My family and I did a charter on a 48-foot catamaran, and we had the best time ever. It was beautiful, and I could basically hold my kids captive, and they didn’t even know it. We went kiteboarding, we went snorkeling, we just hung out together as a family, and it was amazing.” French Polynesia seems like the right place to do that.

“Thailand’s also pretty cool,” Max Parker adds. “If you get the chance to go boat there, you should. Specifically, Phuket and the Phi Phi Islands. The Rock Mountains have great snorkeling; it’s a really cool destination to definitely go to. That was the only place by water I went, so I did see a lot of yachts; you see a lot of big boats and small boats.”

“One place I was blown away with was Mallorca,” Brian Nobles offers. “I went in with very low expectations, and the people, the food, everything about it was just tremendous. It is probably the second-best on the list. Barcelona, I love. I know it’s more of like a commercial thing, but it’s an absolute must. It’s like a European Chicago, if that makes sense. Great food, good people. And it’s by the water, so you can get there with a boat. There are beautiful marinas with superyachts there.”

If you’re looking for more to do, Pierre Badin adds, “Then I would go to the Med, because you have places like Corsica or Sardinia, where you can combine exploring, gastronomic experience–there’s really lots of nice food–and you have a variety of landscapes as well. It goes from actually very close to the Caribbean, with white sand beaches, to some red sand, rocky areas, so it’s nice.”

As we’ve navigated the diverse boating destinations recommended by our yacht brokers, it’s evident that the world’s oceans hold countless treasures waiting to be explored. From the sun-drenched beaches of the Caribbean to the timeless allure of the Mediterranean, and many locations in between, these regions offer a blend of scenic beauty, rich culture, and plenty of on-the-water fun.
