Denison Featuring 9 Yachts at 2013 Newport Beach Boat Show

The 35th annual Newport Beach Lido Boat Show, Southern California’s largest in-water show, will take place Thursday through Sunday this week at Lido Marina Village.

Dealers and brokers will showcase more than 200 models, including cruiseworthy motoryachts, offshore sportfishers, sailboats, long-range trawlers and sport yachts.

Attendees will have an opportunity to see yachts more than 100 feet in length. There will also be a large selection of 35- to 65-foot boats on display, as well as marine accessories, boating gear, electronics, engines, generators and yacht services, including marine financing and insurance.

Hollywood comic legend Jackie Gleason’s former yacht Savoy, a 1970 Chris-Craft 67, is making a special appearance at this year’s show. Completely refurbished and refitted at a cost of more than $1.5 million, the vessel boasts state-of-the art electronics and handcrafted woodwork throughout. It is being shown and offered for sale by Scott B. Jones Yacht & Ship Brokers.

Duffy Retail will show Riding Currents, a Duffy electric boat outfitted with solar panels that set a record last year, cruising from the Newport Boat Show to Catalina Island and back on solar power. The 100-mile trip marked the first time a solar-powered vessel had completed a trip from the mainland around Catalina Island and back, all on renewable energy.

The 22-foot boat is equipped with a modified surrey structure that holds four solar panels. An extra bank of Trojan T-145 batteries is installed under the decks to store the sun-generated energy.
