Morgan Bertram was born into one of the most famous families in the yachting industry, headed by his father, Richard (Dick) Bertram. Morgan and his siblings had a very interesting upbringing early on. As boating was an intricate part of the Bertram's family life, the kids were the 'crew' of the boats, at times traveling, and while learning the meticulous ways of their father at a tender age. The yachts that the family maintained were his father's selling tools for promoting the Bertram product line. At all times, the boats were to be kept in showing condition. "Immaculate" was his father's most often used adjectives!
Morgan's father felt the best yachtsmen were those that knew both sides of yachting so he taught Morgan how to sail at seven years old. He started racing prams/Opti's soon after. By the time he was ten, Morgan was racing with his father on Biscayne Bay in a C & C 38. At the age of 17, he competed in his first off-shore sailing competition from Newport to Bermuda, then continuing on a trans-Atlantic Passage to Greece on an 80' Maxi sail racer "Ondine" One of the highlights of the trip was meeting Aristotle Onassis, eating lunch at his private island, Scorpio. After lunch, everybody went Spinnaker flying onboard "Ondine".
Morgan attending the Flint School, a high school at sea, on a 156' sailing ship that traveled through Europe, Scandinavia, Africa, Cape Verde Islands, Amazon, and the Caribbean. He graduated in Guadeloupe in 1975. After graduation, Morgan sailed one of the school ships in the tall ships race from Bermuda to Newport and the Parade of Sail in New York Harbor for the 1976 Centennial. Morgan attended Boston College and continued racing sailboats as crew in competitions like the America's Cup trials, Sardinia Cup, Maxi Worlds, Kenwood Cup, The San Francisco Big Boat Series, and the SORC (Southern Ocean Racing Conference).
After college, Morgan obtained his captain's license and captained a charter boat in the Caribbean before coming back to South Florida to get into the brokerage business. His father wanted him to learn the experience of working for another company in the industry before coming to work for Richard Bertram Yachts. At this time, Morgan went to work for REX Yachts/ Cheoy Lee. Morgan then worked at the Palm Beach branch of Richard Bertram Yachts. Later, Morgan worked out of Allied Richard Bertram's Corporate Headquarters in Fort Lauderdale. He then went out on his own opening Morgan Bertram Yacht Sales in 2005. After a number of successful years on his own, he went back to work at Allied Richard Bertram to sell new Bertrams' after Bertram Yacht was acquired by Weichai through the Ferretti Group acquisition in 2012. Ferretti closed Bertram unfortunately and Morgan found a good home at Denison Yacht Sales in 2014. When the opportunity of a lifetime came to Morgan to help relaunch Bertram Yacht(New) and Richard Bertram Yachts(Used), It was an opportunity he could not refuse. Denison became the Bertram dealer in 2020 and Morgan is more than happy to be back at Denison selling Bertrams'
To this day, Morgan applies the values and work ethic he learned at a young age. Morgan spends a great deal of time getting to know his clients finding out what their boating needs really are, then he hunts to find the boat that's right for them. He takes great pride in the privilege of selling yachts to referrals of his satisfied customers.
Over the years, Morgan has sold yachts as large as a 142' Palmer Johnson and a 115' Benetti, many new and used Bertrams as well as a few sailboats along the way. He has been awarded the Bertram Yacht Salesman of the Year award and is a member of the International Yacht Brokers Association. He has two children, Cameron 14, and Eva 12. He presently lives in North Palm Beach
