My yacht broker, Bill Palmer, conducted himself in a professional manner that made my first yacht purchase a stress-free experience.
Throughout the buying process, Bill was always very knowledgeable and responsive to my many questions. If he didn’t know the answers, he tracked them down.
Finally, Bill was generous with his time and even spent time post sale to provide orientation of the vessel so I fully understood the operation and systems.
As a business owner myself, I know culture and people are what differentiates professionals from the rest.
My yacht broker, Bill Palmer, helped sell my boat, and my plan is for him to help me find my next boat. Having spent some time with Bill on contract negotiations, constructing sale agreements and sea trialing with four prospective buyers, I can give honest feedback as to his character.
Let me start by saying that I’m very particular in keeping my boat clean and away from any boat shows or similar events that bring the masses to my boat. That may make me hard to work with, but my job instilled in me that it is essential to be precise and particular. What separates a mediocre yacht broker from the best? Every yacht broker needs to familiarize themselves with the client and their needs. The broker needs to have experience, knowledge of the industry, ability to produce Comps, be responsive and show their savvy marketing skills. The yacht broker needs to be aware of any shifts and trends both in their region and globally, and adjust their strategy accordingly.
However, the most important trait having is people-skills and emotional intelligence, EQ. Knowing how to please both the yacht-buyer and the yacht-seller, and trying to be fair for both. Usually, a seller would prefer a broker that fights for the seller’s interest without having any sentiment to the buyer. However, Bill’s approach to mitigate and accommodate both, seems to be the best approach and may persuade the other side of the deal to engage with Bill as per future transaction.
