Worth Noting: The name Hylas is derived from a Greek mythological youth associated with Hercules and the cruise of the Argonauts.
Joseph Huang, President of Queen Long Marine, founded Hylas Yachts in 1984. Hylas center-cockpit sailboats are built in Taiwan by Queen Long Marine and designed by naval architects, Sparkman & Stephens and German Frers.
Huang and Sparkman & Stephens partnered in the early 1980’s and built the first Hylas boat named the Stevens 47. It was named after Bill Stevens of Stevens Yacht Charters because he purchased so many of them. In 1984, two German Frers designs of 42 and 44 feet were added to the fleet.
During the late 1990’s, Hylas launched a German Frers 54-foot model, and in 2000, they introduced a raised saloon model of the same 54-foot Frers hull design.
Both the Stevens 47 and Hylas 44 were popular charter sailboats. Caribbean Charter Yachts (CYC) ran a charter fleet of 44 and 47 Hylases until the early 2000’s.
Committed to customer satisfaction, Hylas Yachts are semi-custom built to appease the owner. Hylas implements development programs, such as ever-evolving design refinements and advanced construction techniques.
