Scarborough Boatworks

About Scarborough Yachts

Established: 1977

Located: Wanchese, North Carolina

Construction: Composite

Category: Custom Sport Fishing Boats

Worth Noting: Ricky Scarborough’s son, Heath, established Scarborough Metal Works adjacent to Scarborough Boatworks.

Scarborough Boatworks was founded by Ricky Scarborough in 1977 when he was in need of a commercial fishing vessel and decided to build his own boat. A fellow fisherman offered to buy the boat, and Ricky agreed to sell him the boat after the summer.

After selling his first boat, Ricky continued to build boats. In 1978, Ricky opened the first Scarborough Boatworks shop at the same location where he still operates today. The facility now consists of three separate shops containing four production bays and a metal working facility.

Ricky’s son, Ricky Jr., came to work with his father in 1993 after graduating with a business degree from East Carolina University. Ricky Sr. retired in 2010, and Ricky Jr. continues taking Scarborough Boatworks to the level, while upholding the legacy his father created.

Ricky Scarborough Boatworks defines true custom Carolina sportfishing boats with over 80 custom projects from 25 to 85 feet in a 32-year period, holding the North Carolina record for the most custom projects built during the same time period.
