Introduction

  • JOYFUL features an electric stowaway main, removable cutter stay, roller-furling headsail, and controls in the cockpit for short-handed sailing.  Under motor, her Yanmar diesel engine will cruise effortlessly at 6-7 knots with a range of over 300 nautical miles.

JOYFUL’s traditional Herreshoff-style cabin interior with dinette and separate nav station layout sleeps six.

Her exploits include crossing the Atlantic to explore Scandinavia and the British isles, a year in the Caribbean exploring the Leeward and Windward Islands, completing the Marion-Bermuda race three times, and visiting almost every harbor from Virginia to Nova Scotia.

Construction:

Hand laid fiberglass hull and deck. Hull is cored with Airex for additional strength per weight. The core is deleted and the hull reinforced with additional laminations in all high-stress areas. Hull stringers cored with Airex are bonded to the hull and integrated with the mast step and engine mounts to form a single unit that is strong and light. Hull laminate is fabricated of unidirectional glass for a better strength per weight ratio. The deck is set in a 6” flange on the hull, then fiberglassed and bolted in place.

  • Draft:  Board up = 5’, Board down = 9’1”
  • Shoal Keel – with 8,500 lbs of lead ballast
  • Centerboard - Fiberglass with a bonze leading edge and operated by cable and Merriman winch.
  • Custom guardrail at sheer painted to match hull with a stainless steel cap.
