44' Island Packet 1995 Sol Mate

Long Beach, CA, US

Previously Asking $140,000

Off Market

Description

The Island Packet 44 designed by Bob Johnson is a full-keel sturdy blue water cruiser. Cutter rigged with head stay and staysail stay. This beautiful boat has dark blue hull with red canvas making her a showstopper in the marina.

The Island Packet 44 interior is laid out for two couples with heads adjoining the staterooms to optimize privacy. Both wet locker and the nav station have been neatly fitted into this layout. The galley is big and functional.
In the sail plan that there is a big gap between the headstay and the staysail stay, making it easier to get the headsail through when tacking. The staysail itself shows a very high aspect ratio.

The Island Packet 44 is a traditional-looking yacht with long cabintrunk and all opening ports. The teak cap rail sets off the sheer nicely. The 44 is the flagship of the popular Island Packet line.

Interior

The Island Packet 44 would be a desirable boat to live aboard. The 6'4" headroom adds to the general feeling of opennes. and airines.. The saloon is an easy place in which to relax or entertain. The dining table folds up and out of the way when not needed.

The galley would make many apartment dwellers envious. The large refrigerator and freezer occupy only part of the spacious counter. Both the threebumer gas range and electric microwave are standard. The electrical system has a AC/DC inverter to power other small appliances, and a generator is optional.

Considering that sailing guarantees the need for foul weather gear, I find the fact remarkable that most designers ignore the existence of the wet, dripping stuff - but not Bob Johnson. This boat gets bonus points for a smart wet locker, which is convenient and well-ventilated with a drain

The nav station is situated forward of the galley. Here a navigator is in his niche. The adjective "cozy" comes to mind, though a yacht broker assured me that a 250-pound man fits in the seat comfortably. The electrical panels are convenient and a bookshelf is right by the navigator's elbow

In the forward and aft staterooms the double bunks are comfortable and there is room to dress. Each has private access to a full head. The forward head has a shower. The aft head has a small bathtub. The settee in the saloon converts to a double bunk and the chairs on the port side can form a single bunk.
