Grand Adventure is a 2010 Grand Banks Heritage EU 47 (Hull #47-0086 - GB made 101 of them, not all of them Heritage) that has had extensive upgrades since the current owners purchased her in July 2018. They purposefully and thoughtfully outfitted her for going to Alaska in comfort, safety, and with ease. After having accomplished this dream, they are upgrading to another Grand Banks, having proven themselves on this fantastic Heritage EU 47.
Featuring twin 500 HP Cummins engines with just around 950 hours, this Grand Banks cruises anywhere from 9 to 18 knots with ease, with the capacity to reach 22 knots. Has bow thruster, diesel heating, dehumidifier system, 9kw Onan generator.
Loads of upgrades, including:
This vessel is clean, presents very well, and is ready for your adventures.
Located on Lake Union in Seattle, WA.
Statement from the current owners:
This boat is reliable and has amazing seakeeping ability. After a shakedown cruise in Puget Sound our first summer, we outfitted her to be able to cruise to SE Alaska via the inside passage. Along the way to Alaska, we found we were well equipped to navigate in extremely foggy conditions, admirably handle rough seas (she took 12 foot waves in the Dixon Entrance and did great), fished, crabbed, hiked, and explored in our dinghy. Grand Adventure’s 2 x 500 hp engines and top speed of 22 knots allowed us to comfortably navigate strong currents in narrow channels in B.C. and Alaska, where cruisers might expect to encounter currents up to 6.5 knots, such as when we headed north through Dodd Narrows, B.C. near Nanaimo.
The enclosed flybridge kept us warm and dry during the chilly cruising to Alaska and allows for an extended PNW cruising season – unzips to let in fresh air as needed! Our 2020 plans were disrupted by the pandemic as we were planning on cruising to Haida Gwai via the inside passage, then transiting south around the very challenging west side of Vancouver Island. Instead, we cruised 1,100 nautical miles from the South Sound and in and around the San Juan Islands, the Hood Canal, and through the Ballard Locks to Lake Washington. We appreciated our shallow draft (3’10”) that gave us the confidence to enter shallow bays and inlets such as Hammersly Inlet heading to Shelton, WA, in the South Sound this summer.
Not only is Grand Adventure a highly capable, reliable cruising vessel, she has beautiful, classic lines and lots of room to spread out. As a cruising couple, we found that we had plenty of room for all our supplies with room left over. But we were also able to host 18 members of our yacht club for happy hour while at anchor in the San Juan Islands and everybody had room to relax and be comfortable inside and out.
New Equipment:
Replaced Equipment:
Maintained/Repaired Equipment:
Salon:
From the current owners: "The salon seating provides extra under cushion storage and a beautiful height-adjustable table suitable for dining or use as a coffee table. Large windows not only allow for stunning views, but also include curtains for privacy/darkness when required. We enjoyed being able to watch football and keep up with our favorite shows all the way to Alaska with our satellite TV!"
To starboard is a straight settee with storage under, teak end table, teak bar cabinet with bottle storage, fridge, and freezer. All around are opening screened windows, and a center opening windshield on an electric actuator.
Galley:
From the current owners: "The “up” galley is huge and offers two refrigerators and one freezer for food storage. Another refrigerator in the flybridge brings the total to three, allowing for very ample fresh food storage during extended cruising. We like that the main helm has almost 360-degree views around the boat and 3 large windshields with wipers. The center windshield opens electrically affording extra airflow."
Lower helmstation:
The lower helm features a wonderful Grand Banks teak steering wheel, helm bench seat with teak step, and easy access to the side decks through the teak door. The electronics console, wrapped in Ultra-leather, features a full array of updated electronics, which is matched up on the flybridge.
Master Cabin and Ensuite Head:
The master stateroom, located forward, is spacious and comfortable, with an ensuite head containing a separate enclosed shower. Features a center-line queen berth, abundant storage in hanging lockers, cupboards and drawers for extended times on board, reading lights, overhead hatch with screen and shade, two opening portlights, also with screens, and a proper mattress!
Guest Cabin:
The second stateroom is located to starboard, amidship, and has twin bunks with loads of storage, via two deep drawers under each bed, and a cedar-lined hanging locker. There are reading lamps, an overhead hatch, and an opening port for ventilation. Easy access across the hall to the private guest/day head with shower.
Guest/Day Head:
Located amidship to port, this spacious guest/day head has a vacuflush head, large countertop, and good storage. There is a curtain to enclose the space for showers. Lastly, there is a combo washer/dryer with storage for all kinds of cleaning equipment.
Main Deck:
Description from the owners: "Entering the huge extended cockpit, there is heaps of room for entertaining, fishing, dining, or simply reading a good book. The covered cockpit is nice because it provides protection from rain or the hot summer sun. There is also a massive lazarette capable of storing everything from fenders to spare parts or tools to deck chairs! The side decks are covered as well, giving wind and rain protection while docking.
The wide side decks give way to a spacious bow area with a huge storage locker, a substantial anchor pulpit, and a front lounge area that’s great for sunning or watching a sunset. With a CQR anchor and 400 feet of chain, we felt that we could successfully anchor most anywhere."
The cockpit lazarette contains the water maker, and yet there is still plenty of room for all matter of cruising gear. There is a second smaller lazarette on this deck for lines and other miscellaneous gear, and a large storage box and two smaller lockers on the foredeck. A place for everything!
Flybridge - General:
Access to the flybridge is via the gently sloped stairs from the cockpit. This stairway is hinged on strong pneumatic rams to reveal steps down to the spacious engine room. Up the stairs is a sliding glass hatch to keep the aft deck dry in inclement weather.
Up top is a fully enclosed flybridge surrounded by isinglass and canvas that provides a warm dry space for lounging and entertaining. The upper helm is fully instrumented; driving from either helm affords full control. There’s oodles of storage beneath bench seating as well as behind the flybridge helm.
Flybridge Helmstation
Many of the electronics at the lower helm have been added to the flybridge. The Chartplotter, Repeater, Autopilot controls, Humphree Controls, Naiad Controls, Engines VessellView the same as down below.
Davit, Tender, and Outboard (Located on Fly):
The engine room is very workable and is accessed via a ladder from a hatch in the salon floor, or by lifting the flybridge stairway, revealing stairs leading the way down. It is well lit with both AC and DC lighting. This is plenty of space for all mechanical equipment, genset, water heater, batteries, spare parts and more, and more room to service all sides of the engines. The twin Cummins QSC8.3 engines are turboed and after cooled, and electronically controlled common rail fuel injection for maximum fuel efficiency, zero smoke, and quiet operation.
