This 2002 480 Motor Yacht has had major upgrades and is ready to go.
The current owner was a live-aboard, so comfort was a necessity. This 480 comes with a hydraulic swim platform with a 2016 12' AB tender with a 20-hp Tohatsou and cover. The enclosed cockpit area has newer, thicker Isenglass and features cool air conditioning and heat, speakers (4), a subwoofer (1), and a smokeless grill, which allows it to be used in any weather even when fully enclosed. At the helm, there are upgraded Garmin electronics, an electrically adjustable captain seat, and bow thruster control. The salon has an upgraded TV, Bose surround sound speakers, two seating areas, and custom cabinets. The galley includes a new Cuisinart microwave and a larger, upgraded Vitirifrigo fridge/freezer combo. The forward VIP cabin has a queen-size bed, an upgraded TV, and an en suite guest head. The other guest cabin has two twin beds (which convert to a queen) and has separate access to the forward head, with a toilet, sink, and shower. The aft owner's stateroom is a full-beam cabin and includes a queen-size bed, a new, larger, quieter A/C, an upgraded TV, custom cabinets, a digital safe, Bose speakers, and a subwoofer.
What distinguishes this yacht from other 480s on the market is the attention given to the twin Cummins QSM-11s. QSM-11s are arguably the best engines on the market (no need to order parts from Sweden), but they typically run extremely hot at heavy loads and are prone to destroying their peripherals, such as turbos, exhaust manifolds, and exhaust systems. The owner consulted extensively with Seaboard Marine in California, a premier Cummins dealer, which has made it their mission to create products and tweak QSM-11s for optimal longevity and efficiency. These engines have Seaboard Marine air seps (serviceable), turbo jackets, and newer engine computers, among other things. At the 1000-hour service, all bolt-on peripherals were rebuilt or replaced, and both water pumps and the entire exhaust system were replaced. Critically, at Seaboard’s recommendation, the owner de-pitched the props, resulting in more coolant and lubricants flowing through the engine at any given speed, with an accompanying reduction in load at any given RPM. The owner further added a Seaboard freshwater engine flush in 2021 (engine "Marine"Age"—the time the engines sit with saltwater inside them—is as important as engine hours). The generator was serviced (10/23), which included oil and filter changes, an impeller, and the heat exchanger and exhaust manifold. Seaboard Marine has a ton of articles (and horror stories) on their website about in-house tests that they have done, and the results allow for proven results that can keep the engine and its accessory parts running 5x longer before needing to be replaced. Before buying any boat with Cummins engines, one would be well advised to educate themselves on their website.
