"Cayenne" is a beautiful, very well-equipped example of this highly regarded blue water cruiser. She has been consistently upgraded since new and meticulously cared for to the highest standards. Of note, the current owners have invested well over $57,000 in improvements in the last six years - including sails, painting the topsides, rigging, engine work, new outboard engine, plumbing work and more. Details to follow throughout this very thorough listing.
She is hull number 65, in the sequence of 76 vessels built between 1995 and 2006, and was commissioned in 2002. Her unique long fin shoal keel (see photo) makes her a versatile cruiser, equally at home in coastal anchorages as she is in long distance blue water passage making.

The J42 has, it is fair to say, become a classic in its own time. Constructed by the internationally renowned Tillotson-Pearson company in Warren Rhode Island, its designer, Rod Johnstone, set out to make a fast cruising yacht with a nod to tradition and comfortable accommodations for two couples. Form follows function, and the J42 has become known for her performance and ease of handling, while turning heads in any harbor with her distinctive raked mast and graceful sheer line.
J42 owners tend to keep their boats for a long time, often upgrading and modifying their vessels based on their needs and experiences. Cayenne’s current owners acquired her nearly new in 2005 and set about adapting her for long distance cruising and ocean racing, adding a detachable inner Solent Stay with a heavy weather staysail jib, a dedicated mast track with a storm trysail and a storm jib, Wichard folding pad eyes with backing plates in the cockpit for crew tethers, and a second manual bilge pump in the aft head to supplement the existing manual bilge pump in the cockpit and automatic electric bilge pump in the keel sump. These features were added to qualify for participation in organized ocean races. Cayenne's numerous other accessories and features are listed below.
The J42 interior design has evolved from over a hundred years of voyaging at sea in comfort. The main cabin settees function as seaberths on either tack. The space is very well ventilated with 11 opening ports, 5 overhead hatches, and 2 Dorades. There are two heads for maximum versatility. With two people aboard, the aft head, well positioned next to the companionway, can be designated shower, sea head and wet locker. The wet locker function, with its self draining floor well, and hanging space is an important and very useful design feature. Other notable features include:
