CHANTICLEER: A Timeless Icon of Yachting Excellence
CHANTICLEER stands as one of the true Grand Dames of yachting, a vessel that exudes history, craftsmanship, and elegance. Originally commissioned by Ogden Phipps and christened BUCKPASSER, after one of his celebrated thoroughbred racehorses, CHANTICLEER was masterfully designed by Jack Hargrave. At her launch, she was the largest yacht ever built by Burger Boat Company and the first in their fleet to feature a helipad, marking a milestone in the shipyard’s storied history.
In 1986, CHANTICLEER entered a new chapter when she was acquired by the legendary singer, actress, and philanthropist Frances Langford. A passionate yachtswoman, Ms. Langford added the cockpit to indulge her love of fishing, further enhancing the vessel’s versatility. For nearly two decades, she welcomed friends, family, and dignitaries aboard, making CHANTICLEER a floating sanctuary of joy and hospitality until her passing in 2005.
Since then, CHANTICLEER has had only discerning owners, each dedicated to preserving her legacy through meticulous preventative maintenance, thoughtful upgrades, and unwavering attention to detail. In 2006 the boat underwent a complete multimillion dollar 2-year rebuild. Her most recent steward, who purchased her in 2023, has carried out substantial refit works, ensuring she remains in immaculate condition. These upgrades bring CHANTICLEER to a standard that honors her storied past while equipping her to provide modern-day comfort and reliability.
Today, CHANTICLEER is ready for her next chapter. With her current owner now pursuing an exciting opportunity to acquire a larger yacht, this iconic vessel is offered for sale. This is an extraordinary chance to own a piece of yachting history—a yacht that embodies the elegance of a bygone era with the functionality and luxury expected in the present day.
Whether cruising pristine waters or hosting guests with timeless style, CHANTICLEER is more than a yacht—she is a legacy. For those who value history, quality, and distinction, CHANTICLEER awaits her next caretaker to continue her extraordinary journey.
