Designed by James Krogen, the Krogen Express 52′ combines classic, timeless style with exceptional seakeeping and efficiency. Her plumb stem, raised bow, and broad beam forward allow her to slice through the waves with ease while providing a great deal of living space in her accommodations. Her low profile allows her to get under bridges as low as 15′ and with a draft of just 4′, she’ll take you almost anywhere you want to go. Her semi-displacement hull delivers trawler-like efficiency at displacement speeds with true cruise capabilities in the mid-to-upper teens. And her generous keel provides stability and protection for her twin propellers.
Boarding a Krogen Express couldn’t be easier with a large transom door and wide boarding gates on either side of the spacious, covered cockpit. Ample storage for lines, fenders, cleaning supplies, and more is provided by the cavernous lazarette below. Entering the salon through double, watertight aluminum doors, her owners are treated to an inviting cherry wood interior. Along with her sumptuous joinery, old world craftsmanship is obvious with the quality of her appointments and overall fit and finish. Legendary Krogen livability is evidenced by the large side windows and generous headroom along with the integral galley-up design.
The covered aft deck is accessed by wide, full-depth boarding gates on both sides and in the transom. Steps on either side allow for easy access to the side decks. Hawse pipes allow for line handling both aft and to the sides. A Scandvik shower in the transom provides hot and cold water for washing down. Speakers overhead are controlled by the wired Fusion remote to starboard. Located in the forward bulkhead to starboard are the 75′ Cablemaster shorepower cord, dockside water and cable TV inlets, freshwater outlet, and 110V receptacle. Accessed through the generous boarding gate, the fiberglass swim platform allows aft access and can be boarded from the folding ladder beneath. The spacious lazarette is accessed through a hatch in the teak sole on the centerline.
Beneath the cockpit sole, accessed through a hatch, is a surprisingly spacious lazarette. In addition to the stern thruster, steering gear, and davit motor/pump assembly, there is abundant storage available for lines, fenders, cleaning supplies, boat hook, folding bikes, emergency tiller, secondary anchor, and more.
Located to starboard, the comfortable L-shaped settee, covered in the owner’s choice of fabric, has storage beneath and a nice end table forward. The custom oval hi-lo table can be moved outside for dining alfresco. To port are a pair of comfortable Ekornes Stressless reclining chairs with ottomans and a custom table. Stylish custom sheer shades provide privacy and protection from the sun. The 32″ LCD TV is conceald behind elegant tambour sliding doors. A Bose sound bar provides audio entertainment.
Below the salon you’ll find the house battery bank (4 Mastervolt AGM "Super 8Ds", 540 Ah total @ 24V), a dedicated stern thruster bank, Cable Master drum (75′ 50A cord), Mastervolt Combimaster 3500 Watt inverter / 100A-24V charger, and Sounddown mufflers. A 2000 gph Rule bilge pump keeps the bilge dry while a water lift muffler quiets the Northern Lights genset. Access is simple with both a day hatch and larger service hatch in support of major mechanical work.
The gourmet galley is located up where her chef can always be part of the activity. She’s well equipped for meal preparation with a 3-burner, Force 10 propane range, 14 cu. ft. GE refrigerator/freezer, GE microwave oven, and deep Elkay sink with pullout sprayer faucet. Gorgeous white granite counter tops are easy to maintain and will complement any decor, while the raised section is ideal for serving crew and guests. Traditional round port lights provide ventilation while abundant storage ensures a good home can be found for all provisions. Beneath the port side bookcase, the U-line ice maker frees up space in the ice box and ensures drinks will be well chilled.
The centerline helm console in the raised pilothouse features electronic Yanmar shifters, two Raymarine Axiom XL 16″ color radar-chartplotters, auto pilot w/ wireless remote control, and additional MFD for depth display, all within easy reach of the fine Doe Ultraleather Stidd helm chair. The custom, handcrafted cherry helm wheel, the focal point of the wheelhouse, is a true work of marine art. Stern and engine room cameras are also displayed on the chartplotters, and a VHF radio ensures clear communication when required. Dedicated drawers and lighted table facilitate the use of paper charts and cruising guides. Proportional Side-Power bow and stern thrusters provide assistance for precise, close quarters handling. Controls for the dual trumpet Kahlenberg horns, intermittent Exalto wiper/washer system, Lofrans Project 1500 windlass, ABT-Trac fin stabilizers, C-zone, and Lenco electric trim tabs are all close at hand. To port and below is the control panel for the bilge pumps. Entertainment is provided by an amplified Fusion stereo system controlling three zones.
The pilothouse watch berth is elevated for optimal forward visibility, long enough for naps underway, and converts to a 3/4 double berth to accommodate overnight guests. A small table, reading lamps, and a 110v outlet provide for a convenient work area and make this an ideal location to retire with a good book. Above the settee, a color matched half hull model showcases her elegant lines and efficient, sea-kindly form. Several small lockers for equipment storage can be found below the settee. High quality, weathertight Dutch doors lead directly to the wide side decks while stairs to port of the settee allow convenient access to the flybridge.
An L-settee that easily pulls out to a double berth highlights the flexible nature of the guest stateroom, while a Pullman berth adds additional sleeping capacity. Located inboard is a large desk with drawers. Aft and outboard is a large hanging locker while beneath the settee are two additional large drawers. Two port lights and a screened hatch overhead make the GSR feel open and airy while 3 wall mounted lamps provide additional lighting for reading. The bilge area below, or pump room, is home to the 3 CruiseAir reverse-cycle air conditioners, the water heater, fresh water pump, and shower drain system. A full head is located across the companionway and the stacked GE washer with separate vented dryer is adjacent to the stateroom.
Beneath the guest stateroom, separated from engine room heat, is a dedicated space for 3 CruiseAir AC units, the freshwater pressure system, water heater, shower drain system, and the vacuum generator for the guest head.
Located to port abaft the guest stateroom is the guest head with separate shower.
A true queen island berth is the centerpiece of the master stateroom. With over 7′ of headroom and light provided by 4 ports and a large screened deck hatch, the MSR feels surprisingly generous for a motoryacht this size. Hanging lockers on both sides, 6 deep drawers under the berth, and a dresser with drawers and shelved storage ensure her owners have ample room for their belongings. A look beneath the berth reveals cavernous storage and provides access to the dedicated battery bank for the bow thruster and windlass.
The ensuite master head features a spacious stand up shower with molded in seat and bi-fold door, Vacuflush head, and fiddled granite countertop.
While her pilothouse is fully capable, most Krogen Express owners prefer operating their vessels up top where they can better experience her cruising capabilities. Conversations are easy as little engine noise makes its way up here, leaving only the soothing sounds of sea breezes and ocean waves with which to compete. A frameless venturi windscreen deflects air above the captain sitting in the comfortable, raised centerline Stidd helm chair. Raymarine electronics provide full navigational support along with the large Ritchie compass while a VHF radio provides communications. Controls for the Sidepower bow and stern thrusters, Lenco electric trim tabs, ABT-Trac stabilizers, and Lofrans windlass are close at hand. The 4′ HD open array radar scanner and Digital Yacht cellular system are mounted on an aluminum spar-style mast that can be lowered with an electric winch when needed. Shaded by a Sunbrella bimini top, the L-settee provides ample seating for crew and guests and contains storage beneath for the extensive canvas package as well as a propane locker. Situated aft of the settee, the open boat deck easily accommodates two folding deck chairs and serves as access to the 11′ 4-seat Walker Bay luxury console tender. This is the ideal place to enjoy a cup of morning coffee or catch a beautiful evening sunset. The dinghy is launched with the fully hydraulic Steelhead davit.
Access forward is simple with just two easy steps to the wide side decks on both sides and a single step just forward of the pilothouse Dutch doors. A high rail inspires confidence and a feeling of safety. The crew will find line handling simplified compared to similar vessels with raised bulwarks and fashion plates covering side decks. The two spring cleats, mounted conveniently on the toe rails, couldn’t be easier for securing lines and the lack of a Portuguese bridge makes for quick passage forward. Deck fills for fuel and water can be found on both sides mid ships while the waste pumpout is forward to starboard. On the port side of the pilothouse forward are secondary 50A shorepower and cable TV connection points. The Rocna Vulcan plow style anchor can be retrieved easily by her Lofrans Project 1500 windlass with foot pedals located to port and can be cleaned by either the raw water or fresh water wash downs. The compartmented anchor locker is accessed by a ship quality Freeman deck hatch and houses the ground tackle, comprised of 50′ of 3/8″ high test galvanized chain and 200′ of 3/4″ line. A ladder ensures easy access below and there is ample additional space for fenders, lines, and wash down hose.
With over 6′ height on the centerline, the exceptionally clean, stand-up, walk-in engine room is accessed through a weathertight aluminum door with observation window. Her powerful 440 hp common rail Yanmar diesels can be easily accessed all around. The engines are fired by dedicated Slimline AGM starting batteries and drive through matched Yanmar/Kanzaki transmissions. Vibration is kept to a minimum with the standard Aqua Drive systems. The 12kw Northern Lights genset sits on the centerline and is easily serviced. A Reverso fluid changing system is connected to both engines, both transmissions, and the genset to improve serviceability, while a Groco fuel transfer pump makes equalizing the tanks a breeze. As with the water tanks, diesel fuel levels can be easily assessed with convenient sight tubes. A Seafire automatic fire suppression system, freshwater wash down, and storage for tools and supplies above and alongside the large water tanks are additional features welcomed by her owners.
