Edge Yacht | 85' Sarp 2022

EDGE was a finalist for the 2023 Boat International Design & Innovation Awards in two separate categories for ‘Outstanding Exterior’ & ‘Best New Series’ which is a testament to EDGE’s high quality thanks to naval architecture from Van Oossanen Naval Architects and interior & exterior design from Red Yacht Design.

She features a fast displacement hull form and has a composite hull and carbon fiber superstructure which gives her a top speed of 21 knots and a cruising range of 1,000nm at 12 knots.

By utilizing a large amount of glass both in the hull & superstructure to merge the interior and exterior spaces into one the layout removes as many obstructions as possible creating an open floor plan. You can literally stand in the salon and have a line of sight from the bow to transom. There is an open galley to port that can also be enclosed depending on the level of service expected by the guests or owner/operator.

The aft deck is a wide open space that flows from the salon to the lounge area located directly outside. From there a full beam set of stairs leads down to the swim platform that has the hydraulic platform that doubles as a launch for a tender or jet ski.

Teak decks continue both on port & starboard where you find full walk-arounds leading to the bow where you have another sitting area and lounge space. I love how glass is embedded in the bulwarks to give you a line of sight to the water opening up the space to guests dont feel enclosed.

The upper sundeck has a large fixed hard top with glass skylight, sitting area and full bar & upper helm. A perfect location to enjoy the view and wind in your face when underway.

A life of tree inspired central staircase leads down to 4 spacious cabins including a full beam master, but the fourth cabin located at the base of the stairs can be converted and opened up into a lower lounge area. This space can be utilized in a number ways and I feel is extremely practical as it allows one to configure the lower accommodations to fit a large range of guest parties.

Crew accommodations and start trek themed engine room access is back aft with the engine room almost serving as a piece of art with its arrangement and level of quality.

The goal of the XSR 85 is to improve ones level of enjoyment on the water with her sexy, sporty lines and ability. She has a nice top speed and thanks to her fast displacement hull an impressive range of 1,000nm+ at economical speeds. A very versatile yacht in design and ability. A true testament to SARP in their engineering department.

HULL DESIGN

Van Oossanen developed the patented 'Fast Displacement Hull Form' or FDHF. the development of this concept was triggered by the design to develop a hull form that is efficient over the entire speed range and not only in a restricted speed interval around the maximum speed. Other benefits include significantly increase comfort on-board with better sea keeping and wave reduction. Particularly when compared to hard chine vessels, the FDHF showed improved sea keeping behaviour and manouverability, as well as reduced sensitivity to an increase in the weight of the vessel.

XSR 85 is designed respectful of nature. The key element of the design is the glass arrangement which surrounds the entire salon, giving great lightness and visibility from the inside-out. The use of extensive integrated glass gives the architectural touch to the design for the owner's freedom and flexibility with the unique open-deck feeling.

INTERIOR DESIGN

XSR 85 interior design aims to give guests a sense of openness. We want you to feel yourself on a remote island, your own island, forgetting that you are on a boat. You will merge with nature the very moment you open the windows. This feeling of freedom and openness has been further enhanced by lifting the inferior wall between the salon and the galley. It is possible to chat with your friend who is preparing a snack for you while you are sipping your drink.

When you descend down the sculptural stairs an unexpectedly large lounge area appears in front of you. Designed with an innovative approach, the lounge provides guests with a complete comfort by turning into a cabin if necessary. A single vertical axis is designed to minimize volume loss and to maximize the interior-exterior relationship.

Edge has this premium paintwork that is totally unique and beautifully executed. The handrails, along with many other features on board and in fact, the entire superstructure is made from carbon fiber, providing a weight advantage that the Van Oossanen and naval architecture package will no doubt benefit from. Van Oossanen is the absolute pioneer of the fast displacement whole form, and in fact, the odd has an impressive top speed of 21 knots and a range of 1,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. She is 26 meters in length, has a beam of 6.46 meters, and a draft of 1.26 meters, so a great yacht for the Bahamas. That 1,000 nautical mile range, comes from a fuel tank with a 7,850-liter capacity and two MAN 800-horsepower engines. An engine room design so pleasing to the eye, so unique. Surprisingly enough, actually a fun place to be. The bow area is an impressive use of available space. You can sit and enjoy a snack here, sunbathe. As you look around the exterior, you'll occasionally see these discreetly fitted hooking points so that a sun awning can be added. Back down these stylish side decks, past those huge floor to ceiling windows, and we come to a well-proportioned after deck. It is a great spot to enjoy dining too.

Back down these stylish side decks, past those huge floor to ceiling windows, and we come to a well-proportioned after deck. It is a great spot to enjoy dining too.

On the aft deck, steps down and we have two hatches, one leading to a laundry room and the other leading to that sensational engine room that we saw earlier. But for most guests on board, this will just be a passageway to the final section at the extreme Aft of the us. The central section here is called a transformer. It can be used to launch a  tender,  pasarelle and a wonderful and sizable swim ladder, or even as a diving board. And again, evidence of a builder who wants to provide a real quality product that owners will enjoy, a carbon fiber shower to rinse off when you've finished your daily swim. We haven't even looked at the inside of the yacht yet. Just look at it. It is absolutely beautiful. If you look at the ceiling, and the ceiling itself is a beautiful example of design and craftsmanship. On the either Edge of the main deck ceiling, there are hidden skylights. Now, that's a very clever design feature. Forward of the lounge and to port is the galley with high-end Miele appliances, an American style fridge freezer, and this stylish finishing throughout. Actually, the captain pointed out to me that even the back of the door has the same finish to it. It's little details like this that I appreciate about the Yacht. Further forward still, we have the Helm station. From the Helm station and down the staircase, and we come to the staterooms. The staircase that Sarp Yachts calls it their tree of life staircase, each step supported by branches and engraved with leaves and foliage. Forward, we have a sumptuous VIP stateroom and en suite. It's elegant, but it's also practical with plenty of wardrobe space, storage, and a small vanity unit. Moving Aft to port is a lower lounge area that can be sectioned off for use as a stateroom. As a parent, I can see a good use for this in the late evenings when you want to spend some quality time , sipping cocktails and enjoying the sea breeze, whilst the children fall asleep. you can pick them up and place them carefully into one of the two beds in the twin cabin just over to the starboard side. Master bedroom is  full beam with panoramic windows, prestigious materials and fabrics. This is a beautiful and comfortable and owner's cabin as I have seen on any yacht of this size. Well, let's move on from the owner state room up the tree of life staircase, higher still into the branches, and to the Fly Bridge or the sun deck, as you may prefer to call it. The helm station of the Fly Bridge continues the fun, space-aged theme of the engine room. Whilst some yacht may try to hide it out of sight, Edge quite rightly celebrates it. The lifting and lowering table offers the perfect spot to enjoy formal dining under the shade of the hard top, and crew can serve drinks and prepare grilled meat and fish from behind a well-proportioned bar. The crew themselves are accommodated in the bow where there are two cabins with a head and even a small mess.
