ELAN is better than new? Just read over the following upgrades made in 2016 and then again in 2022 to the present and decide for yourself. One simply runs out of accolades to describe this incredible Swan 53. I am sure there is nothing like her anywhere in the world, on or off the brokerage market.

The present owner purchased ELAN, then JANE, on the west coast in 2022 and arranged to sail her from CA, via the Panama Canal, to Jamestown RI where she underwent another major refit. See below "2022 to 2024 refit".

Hull

Solid fiberglass hull. Painted Sterling Pure White with double boot top of dark blue Top hat, foam cored stringers inside to help stiffen the hull where no bulkheads are present Marine grade plywood waterproof bulkheads Vetus bow thruster with multiple designated batteries. Engine beds are of GRP with steel inserts Complete bottom fairing including keel and rudder. West Systems epoxy barrier coat (2020) and 3 coats of Sea Hawk Sharkskin dark blue antifouling. Keel is a lead casting with antimony. Cast in keel bolts are of high tensile stainless steel. Keel was modified with a bulb by a previous owner to 7’ of draft to allow for access to the owner’s home in the Bahamas. Balanced spade rudder of foam filled GRP with high tensile tube stainless steel stock supported by upper and lower double roller bearings. Aluminum quadrant bolted to rudderstock Keel bolts re-torqued (2020)

Deck

Closed cell foam cored GRP sandwich construction. Single laminate with aluminum backup plates for deck fittings. Custom teak decked transom fold down swim platform and ladder (2010). Teak deck replaced with ½” decking and ¾” teak toe rail (2016). 60” Nautor made SS destroyer type wheel recessed into cockpit sole, leather covered. Pedestal with roller bearings and friction brake. Suunto D-165 compass on steering pedestal. The deck layout has been significantly updated to simplify sailing functions and eliminate clutter. Custom fittings and fabrications of GRP coaming tunnels to pass halyards, cunningham and reefing lines to aft winches. A custom pedestal fabrication for single mainsheet winch. 6 x Lewmar 105 Ocean Racing halyard blocks. Lewmar aluminum genoa car tracks for Ocean Racing ball bearing cars. Genoa car towing forward end-stop fittings with Lewmar stand-up blocks and Antal line clutches. Lewmar 130 Ocean Racing stand-up blocks for genoa sheets, removable into custom SS deck bases (2016). Lewmar traveler with 105 Ocean Racing blocks. Lewmar Ocean racing deck and flying blocks for running backstays. Deck blocks are removable (2016). Harken halyard fairleads on custom bases (2016). Winches: All serviced in 2023. 2 x Antal W66 Chrome 2 speed electric primary winches with Antal SS deck switches. 2 x Antal W60 Chrome 2 speed secondary winches. 1 x Harken in/out Chrome 2 speed electric mainsheet winch (2024). 1 x Harken flat mounted single speed electric traveler winch (2024). 2 x Lewmar 52 2 speed winches

GENERAL ARRANGEMENT: Sleeps 6 in 3 separate sleeping cabins plus 1 more in the main saloon port settee for a total of 7. 2 heads. All furniture is varnished and hand rubbed Burmese teak veneer over marine ply, solid teak or teak veneered formed laminates. Teak and holly cabin sole. Vinyl panels overhead. FOREPEAK CABIN: Located in the bow. Storage under both bunk tops. FORWARD HEAD: Located immediately aft of the forepeak cabin. Full width. Gel coated fiberglass unit to half height. Sink with hot and cold pressure water and shower wand to starboard. Head to port. Teak grating in the floor. FORWARD PORT CABIN: Located immediately aft of the forward head. Door to the head forward. Door to the main saloon aft. 2 single bunk beds. FORWARD STARBOARD CABIN: Located immediately aft of the forward head. Door to the head forward. Door to the main saloon aft. 2 single bunk beds. MAIN SALOON: Located aft of the forward cabins. “L” shaped settee to port with lockers outboard. 2 single directors chairs in the middle. The settee and chairs surround a large dining table. Veneered compass rose embedded into table top (2023). On the starboard side are lockers and a countertop. Here there is an AV system and a 32” TV on a hinge with storage for the boat’s manuals behind. Tool storage under the counter top along with an ice maker. On the forward bulkhead to port is a custom glass locker. NAVIGATION STATION: Located aft of the saloon and on the starboard side. Facing forward. Surrounded with navigation and communication electronics as well as the AC and DC electrical panel. Drawers forward with locker outboard. GALLEY: Located opposite the navigation station and aft of the saloon. Corian countertop with 3 sinks on the inboard side. Hot and cold pressure water. Sea water foot pump. Soap dispenser. Dish draining racks over the sinks. Spice locker aft. Trash locker. On the outboard side of the galley is a 3 x burner Force 10 stove (new 2024) with oven. Front loading fridge and top loading freezer. Microwave oven. Ample lockers outboard and drawers under counter. MASTER STATEROOM: Located via the galley or behind the navigation station through the aft head. Large centerline double bed with curved seats either side. Ample lockers throughout aft cabin. Hanging locker to port and forward. 2 x lockers forward to starboard with shelves. Small vanity on the centerline and against the forward bulkhead. AFT HEAD: Located between the master cabin and the navigation station and on the starboard side. Access via a door to the navigation station forward and to the master cabin aft.
