Shangri La Boat | 46' Cheoy Lee 1978

Beautiful Vintage 46’ Cheoy Lee Trawler

SHANGRI LA has the distinction of being the smallest double-deck production yacht ever built. One can live the dream on this vintage beauty. She is well configured for weekend cruising and long passage-making voyages.

She has traveled all of the east coastal waters, the Erie Canal, circumnavigated the Great Lakes, and the inland waterways of the Mississippi/Ohio rivers to Southwest Florida and the Florida Keys.

Accommodations are comfortable and efficient. The chef's galley highlighted many a memorable voyage. Deck space is optimized for flexibility, supporting offshore excursions, kayaking and wilderness exploration, and operations that demand space for gear and personnel.

Shangri La has voyaged in freshwater and kept in indoor heated off-season storage for most of her lifespan.

Accessories and equipment includes AC, Starlink, new settee, new canvas aft deck enclosure with AC, exotic wood finishes, new victron inverter and batteries, and diesel generator for reliable power at anchor or underway. Reliable twin 120 Ford Lehman marine diesels yield a cruising speed of 7.5 - 8.0 knots at just over 4 gallons per hour at 1750 RPM, giving "Shangri La" a cruising range of over 1,500 nautical miles.

The engines have approximately 3,500 hours. She is constructed on a solid fiberglass displacement hull with a keel deep enough to protect the running gear in the event of a grounding. The hull is a solid, hand laid-up GRP molding, and sandwich construction is used for the decks and superstructure. All scantlings excel Lloyd’s requirements.

Shangri La was commissioned in 1978 and cruised only during the summer months with the original owner in Maine. In 1998 she was purchased in Camden, Maine and sailed to Bay City, Michigan where she was berthed for 10 years. In 2008 she was moved to Traverse City, Michigan. She circumnavigated all of the Great Lakes with many summers in Georgian Bay and the North Channel. During her 26 years in Michigan freshwaters, she wintered in heated and covered storage, allowing her to receive annual maintenance and cosmetic work, deck work and substantial upgrades.

In 2018 she journeyed south via the western part of the Great Loop, arriving in southwest Florida in 2019. She cruised southwest Florida and the Keys in the last few winters. In the last 5 years in Florida, she was protected in covered storage in the off-season. She has been well maintained and cared for with prime attention given to safety and structural integrity.
