SPRUCE is a classic, late model (1974) Beals Island lobster boat; Never used for fishing but built as a tender/commuter for the family who owns Roque Island in Downeast Maine. Originally Grey with white superstructure, recently repainted red.
SPRUCE has only had three owners and has always received the best possible care. She has a new Yanmar 4BYZ-180 diesel, all new electrical system and electronics, and her bottom planking was completely refastened. Construction is Maine cedar planking over steam bent oak frames and backbone. All fasteners are bronze.
In the past few years the cabin house was replaced with varnished mahogany and the headroom increased to about 6’ 1”. This work was done by Jens Lange and his crew at Baltic Boatworks in Bristol, RI – and in a recent conversation Jens reported that SPRUCE is in perfect condition both structurally and systems-wise.
SPRUCE is a day boat, perfect for commuting, picnics, or to go out and watch the races. There is a sink and icebox in the enclosed pilothouse, and down below (with about 5’ of headroom) there is a large table over the engine box, a V-berth, and a head.
