Launched in 2003, Luna Moth is Hallberg Rassy 34 Hull No. 409. Moth is the tiller option with a full-stack main-sail. Moth has 2 cabins, forward and aft. Moth has a single head with manual-flush toilet. Moth has been meticulously maintained since launch.
Moth has had 3 owners. The first two owners sailed Moth on short, coastal passages in UK waters during the summer. Moth was lifted out of the water for winters. The current owner is a professional captain. He holds a Master Mariner’s License (Unlimited) and has worked at sea in all parts of the world for 26 years. As a professional mariner, the maintenance and safety of the vessel have been his foremost concerns. The current owner has invested heavily in Moth to ensure she is well-equipped for offshore cruising. During two extensive shipyard periods in 2017 and 2022, the best possible equipment for comfortable, offshore cruising was installed.
The first shipyard period was completed in Southampton, England, 2017 (see detailed list of works completed below). Moth was then driven overland to the south coast of France in January 2018. In May, 2018, Moth was sailed to Sopromar Marina in Lagos, Portugal, and lifted out of the water. Moth spent the next 4 years out of the water in Lagos. Before leaving the boat in Lagos, all running rigging, interior cushions etc. was removed from the boat and stored in a local, air-conditioned storage unit. Sails were removed, cleaned and stored with a local sail-maker. The engine was flushed with FW and all oils, filters and coolant changed. Winter covers were fabricated and fitted by a local sailmaker (one for topsides and a second for the Monitor wind-vane). During her stay in Sopromar, Moth was washed once a month by marina staff.
The second shipyard period was completed in Lagos, Portugal, from September to December 2022 (see detailed list below for works completed).
From January to July 2023, Moth was sailed single-handed from Portugal to Panama. Moth is currently in Vista Mar marina on the Pacific side of Panama. All running rigging, interior cushions, sails etc. have been washed, dried and stored in a secure, air-conditioned storage unit in Panama City. Winter covers have been fitted.
Moth comes with a huge inventory of spare parts and tools. Manuals for all equipment are on board and in good condition.
