The Island Packet 40 quickly established itself as an industry benchmark for high quality cruising sailboats with its sparkling performance, superior safety and seakeeping capabilities, ease of handling and spacious and livable accommodations.
The cutter rig, standard on every Island Packet, has long been recognized as the most versatile and manageable sail plan for offshore cruisers.
Below the waterline the Island Packet 40 was one of the first models to be equipped with Island Packets’ Full Foil Keel®, providing lift in the same fashion as one would find on a fin keel, while providing the seakindly performance of a long keel. This feature brings numerous benefits to the cruising sailor: great protection from damage or fouling of the prop and rudder, a moderate draft with exceptional stability characteristics for shallow water gunkholing or worldwide cruising and winning performance capabilities.
"TINTEÁN" was the last Island Packet 40 made and has spent most of her life on the Chesapeake Bay and New England, with a few voyages to Bahamas, so this is not a boat that has spent a lifetime in the Southern sun.
The Island Packet 40 has earned its reputation, alongside the other Island Packet models, as a top-quality offshore cruising platform. If you are considering the cruising lifestyle and are looking for a strong, safe and comfortable yacht to do it on- whether gunkholing locally or voyaging to faraway destinations across the oceans of the world- you owe it to yourself to consider our offering. Below decks, the Island Packet 40’s interior greets the cruising sailor with an inviting and comfortable arrangement plan. Two double staterooms, each with an adjoining head and shower, combine with an expansive central living area to provide a gracious setting whether entertaining dockside, cruising with family and friends or passage making offshore.
Forward head: A large louvered door provides access to a huge, divided anchor locker. On either side of that are push latch medicine cabinets. The sink is located on port, has cabinet storage beneath it and teak sliding door storage immediately above it, with a teak fiddled laminate surface above that. A mirror runs the full width of the space above the shelf. The head is oriented on centerline forward. To starboard is a radiused teak shower seat and shower wand with its own controls on an adjustable height bar. There is one hatch, two opening ports, and three recessed overhead lights. Bi-fold doors separate the head from the master stateroom just aft of it. Headroom in here is 6’2”.
Forward stateroom: The Pullman master berth is 79” x 36” x 60” and on starboard. There are 6 cedar-lined drawers below the berth and additional storage behind that. A small, fiddled teak shelf runs the length of the hull above the berth and a similar smaller fiddled shelf at the head. On port there are 3 drop-front lockers and a double door hanging locker- all with cedar lining and with fiddled teak shelves above. The cabin is ventilated by two Hella fans, two dorades, an overhead hatch and three opening ports. Additionally, there are three swivel light fixtures mounted on the house sides and a fluorescent light at the head of. The bed. The master stateroom and its ensuite head are separated from the main cabin by a bi-fold door.
Salon: On port is a 5’4” straight settee. Forward of that is a cedar-lined hanging locker with a fiddled shelf above it. There is storage behind the back cushions and beneath the entire seat. On starboard is a 6’4” long L-shaped settee; a slide-out platform quickly converts it to a comfortable 42” wide berth. Because the tankage is below the floor, it’s all storage! There is a chart stowage drawer beneath it. Above both seating spaces you will find a louvered double door locker on the left, a fiddled bookshelf in the center and a sliding door locker on the right.
The signature Island Packet bulkhead mounted table drops down to seat 3 or can be opened to serve 5 comfortably. Cleverly concealed behind the table is a teak bottle and shelf storage case. The aft portion of the starboard settee serves as the seating for the aft facing Nav station.
Headroom in the saloon is 6’4”. There are four opening ports, two dorade vents and an overhead hatch with a teak screen, two Hella fans, and four reading lights.
Nav station: The teak chart table is spacious and can be raised to a level surface when additional flat surface space is desired. There is a deep shelf below the Nav which could be used to store charts. There is a dry bin for tools beneath the sole and a locker along the hull for additional storage. Headroom here is 6’3”.
Aft head: The aft head can be entered from either the salon or aft stateroom. The space has been converted to a nav station, but could be converted back to a second head if desired. There is a desk space, with electronics above. Ventilation is provided by an opening port and an overhead hatch. Headroom is 6’3”.
Galley: At the base of the companion way, the large spacious galley has 6’2” headroom and is located on starboard. The galley and entry space soles are of non-skid molded fiberglass to protect from spillage and to provide secure footing underway. The double sink is oriented toward center and has storage beneath the front and a tip out trash bin towards centerline. To the right of the sink is a large 2 level dry bin, with a microwave outboard of that. Continuing around is the 3-burner stove; pot storage is beneath it and a spice rack behind it along the hull. Continuing aft along the hull side is the large, refrigerated ice box.
Above the ice box is more storage, with sliding door fronts and a fiddled laminate shelf the entire length along the hull side. Aft of ice box the countertop wraps back towards centerline; beneath the countertop is a huge pantry type cabinet with louvered doors.
Above and across the aft end of the countertop are divided shelves, dish organizers, and cutlery drawers. On centerline above the engine compartment is additional counter space and one drawer for larger objects.
Aft stateroom: The aft stateroom is located on port and accessed via a bi-fold door at the base of the companion way. There is a double door hanging locker and two drop down storage bins, all with cedar lining. Fiddled shelves are above both. There is a changing seat in front of the drop front lockers. The berth is 75” by approximately 54” and is well ventilated with an overhead hatch, two opening ports, and a Hella fan. Headroom in here is 6’3”.
The deck's well engineered layout provides the safety and security needed in offshore conditions without sacrificing comfort or ease of use. Full length cabin top handrails, double lifelines with welded bow and stern rails, recessed foredeck with bulwarks and a premium, slip resistant surface all contribute to offshore safety. Forward, the integral bowsprit/ anchor roller platform increases sail area and improves sheeting angles. All control lines are led aft to the safety of the cockpit. The eight-foot-long cockpit has full length contoured seats. A separate raised helm seat with padded backrest gives the skipper ample room and ensures good visibility.
